off and on all next week, what is the coolest, most comfortable raingear you've worn. I would think thin, plastic ponchos would get really hot and sticky. Better off just bringing a windbreaker/regular jacket? You can't bring umbrellas in the parks, right?

You most certainly CAN bring umbrellas into the parks and I did. There were many umbrellas around when the rain passed thru last week. I hated the idea of being in a poncho when it's so humid and hot out. Ditto with a jacket/windbreaker. I brought a hat and a teeny umbrella (i got at target) that fit in my bag and it worked out GREAT for me

Forgot to add that we also bought some Moisture Wicking clothing and that helped to make wet stuff dry quicker. I got some t-shirts for me at Kohl's for less than $10. Got some shirts for DH at Bob's Store pretty cheap too. These types of items would be found in the athletic clothing section.

bring shoes you can go puddle jumping in. that's what i intend to do some people might think i'm weird at the time but at least i'll be having fun no matter what. i've been there in the summer, and in November & December. now i get to try October and i will get to be the kid who wants to play play play if you wear light thin clothes you should dry out.

Well it certainly isn't fashion concious (sp) but we get a bunch of the thin plastic ponchos then rip off the sleeves and bottom cple inches so that all is really covered is our clothes (denim shorts feel icky when wet) and pocketbook/fannypack/backpacks or whatever each one of us is wearing. Since we buy the real cheapies we don't feel bad about tossing them out afterwards....saves trying to fold up wet items to put back in a backpack.

I'm not comfortable w/umbrellas b/c I'm afraid I'll accidently take someones eye out.....not on purpose of course but some people rush in the rain so they can get somewhere dry. And I'm not keen on the kiddos having such an item for the exact same reason. But that's just me. We did bring small collapsible umbrellas but those were for traveling around the resort & non-park days etc.

I go the umbrella route. It is less hot and easier to deal with. My DH uses a poncho and sweats! I use the poncho for the strollers. It keeps them dry when they are parked in stroller parking.
