SIMS2 on PS2

So, we finally got a PS2, and I bought Sims2. Any hints/tips/tricks/way cool things anyone can tell me?

Assuming it's the same on PS2 as on PC, be sure to earn and buy the career items. They are hilarious, especially the surgery practice device from the doctor career.

Okay, so it keeps telling me to hire a maid, does anyone know how to do that?

Buy and use the phone. Make note of the other options when you call, you may want to use those later in the game. For example, it's also how you get groceries.
