Simple way to do Signature

I admit it...I am a computer idiot! I have read everything I can find about creating a signature line under my posts and I still can't figure it out. All I want to do is add a line of text. I don't need to do pictures. How do I do this. Can anyone give me very simple, step by step directions?

I am going to try to do an avatar next. I still need to research it. If anyone wants to reference a sticky for the process, please do!
