Simple Thing a Cast Member Did...

I love them all ~ too many to comment on.

I forgot about this one from our July trip. The shop outside of HM as a CM who works there who is deaf (both her and her boyfriend/husband) ~ she couldn't really communicate with my girls but gave them each a teeny tiny little hand made envelope sealed closed with a tiny character sticker. Inside each envelope was a small stash of the metallic Mickey head confetti. The girls had been picking them up off the ground making little stashes of them so it meant a lot to them!
Her husband if it is the couple I am thinking about. We had a great conversation last time I visited.

There are so many special moments we've had at WDW.
One that stands out is when my daughter was about 10 and we took her to EPCOT after a viola completition in Central Fl. We had her instrument with us and asked at Guest Services if they could hold it for us as the storage lockers were not deep enough and it needed to be in a cool area.
When we were done my daughter went to pick up her viola and she was invited to come in and play it for the CMs there. Her first performance in a Disney Park.

Another time we were at FT Wilderness at Crockett's and were talking about finding a guitar shop so my daughter could pick up some picks because she forgot them at home. The guitar player overheard us and asked if he could help so we asked him if there was one nearby. He says to wait. Comes back with a couple of picks and gives them to my daughter. Then sits down and talks with my daughter about music for a bit.
And magic for me this trip. At the Shake It, Move it parade I usually just sit and watch from my wheelchair. Well this time I was encouraged to come out and join everyone dancing and I had a blast!

I was at Magic Kingdom with my fiance and two best friends this past February. We were standing in line at Mickey's house waiting to meet Mickey and Minnie. I was in my wheelchair and my fiance was pushing me. Everytime the lined stopped I would chat with my friends and fiance. Well during one of our chatting sessions a cast member walks over and asks us to follow her. She undoes the rope in the line so we can get through. She weaves us through and we wound up in the front of the line to see Mickey and Minne.

We all still talk about this to this day.

Here is the link for the all the DISsigns... they have some great things. I was not able to quickly find a link for the thank you cards that we used. My GDD love these cards, as anyone who smiled, said Happy Birthday just had to have a thank you card. Nearly everyone who received one was thrilled, some CMs said they would keep in their scrapbooks. Our thank you cards were the size of a standard business card, and while I thought I had way too many, it turned out to be just enough! It was a nice life lesson for her too!

They are creative dissigns! Enjoy! Karen

I had never even heard of these before a couple of days ago! Sometime last week, a mother and her daughter came up to my podium (CRT), rather distraught about losing the daughter's wand from dinner the night before. Now, I don't want to say this happens all of the time, but WDW is a big place and it's easy to drop a wand or break a sword in the middle of an intense swordfight. So to magically procure a new wand for the princess? No big deal. When I emerged with the wand, the mother and her daughter were so happy, that's enough to make my day right there. They thanked me and started on their way, and I went back to looking at the reservations list.

Next thing I know, there's a small child behind the podium with me (!). Not allowed, but it sometimes happens and you just have to show them the way back around. When I looked over, it was the little girl, and she was holding a business-sized card in her hand. When I took it to read it, she thanked me again and ran off. On it is a picture of Princess Aurora and the phrase "Someone so wonderful only comes along Once Upon A Dream", with her name and 'Fall 2010' on it.

Such a small gesture, only a little piece of paper with some words on it, but it easily made my day and is one of the things that I will always remember from my College Program. Didn't mean to turn the thread around again, but had to be shared :goodvibes:

My in-laws had gotten FP's for Splash Mountain and a while later, the 4 of us went to get FP's for Buzz. DH and I got ours, but when my in-laws tried to get theirs, nothing would come out of the machine. I looked at the SP FP's and said, "Oh, you can't get them because the start time for your SP FP's hasn't started yet. We'll have to try again later." Suddenly, a hand reaches appeared in front of me with 4 FP's for Buzz. It was a CM! She said, "Now you can all ride together. Have a great time!" and she walked away with a big smile on her face!

DH and I in-turn, handed our original Buzz FP's to another couple so that we could help spread the pixiedust:

Oh and when DH and I visited during our anniversary, we were given cards signed by CM's at a couple of restuarants. We were also given a special dessert tray from the chef at Boma. Sweet, simple and yet magical little things that just made our trip.

Let me tell you that I still have serveral I keep in a scrapbook!

And for a little reverse pixie dust- Guest to CM-

When I worked at EPCOT GR I befriended a family who would come up about once a month from Tampa for the day. They had the cutest little girl in the entire world and they would always pop in GR to see if I was working and say hi. On day I was working outfront of GR and the family came by to see me! We were chatting and I mentioned that it was my birthday that day.

They went on to enjoy their day and I went back to my work. A few hours later their daughter came running up to me with her hands behind her back and told me she had a surprise for me. She pulled out a lollipop with the word celebrate on it, wished me a happy birthday, and gave me a big hug!

I still have that lollipop upstairs in a little stash with all of the awesome memories I have as a CM, but that is by far my favorite!

Not for us, but this is one of my favorites... On our first visit to MK, we stopped to have a Photopass picture taken in front of the castle about 20 minutes before the fireworks started. As I walked away, I overheard the Photopass Photographer speaking to a second one - they were discussing how they were going to take pictures for a guest (standing nearby) who was planning to propose to his girlfriend during the show. What a great surprise for her and they were going to help her remember it! Awesome!

One of the reasons that we've gone to Disney 3 years in a row is that the CM's at the all of the restaurants handle food allergies so well. Our DS3 is allergic to many things (Eggs, Milk, Peas, Peanuts, and Gluten)...and he's really allergic, this isn't just "over-protective parenting". During his food test for milk, his body couldn't even tolerate 1 teaspoon in total before getting sick. It's so hard sometimes to find food that he can eat...but not at Disney.

At Disney, the cashier/waiter will instantly let you know that they'll get the Chef. The Chef will come out shortly and handle you with respect. They listen, they offer suggestions, walk you through the buffet/menu. It would be so easy for them to role their eyes and treat you like "your bothering me, I have work to do," But they don't. They really care and help to take care of our little pirate...special waffles, desserts, they will bake fries if their oil might be cross-contaminated with something having milk in it, etc.

We just returned from 10 days at Disney and I'm already planning our trip back because of how this little difference in attitude makes our vacation so easy.

If you want to experience this for yourself, go to any restaurant and say you have a milk/egg allergy. Then go to Disney and say the same thing. You'll be amazed at the difference in how you are treated.

The last time we went to WDW in 2008 we had just gotten off of Splash Mountain. I didn't want to get to wet so my DS said to ride with him. The last row doesn't get as wet. Well I got it the worst. I told DS that was the last time I would listen to him about where I would sit. Well a cm heard this and asked if we wanted to try it again so we did. This time I tried a different row. Still happened. She let us do this 4 times. Then I said enough to my family. You could see in the pictures they take that I got more wet then the rest of the family each time. The CM gave us the picture for free. As we exited out threw the gift shop another cm who had overheard what was happened came over with a themed towel from the ride. Handed it to me and a new t-shirt and pointed out the nearest bathroom and told me to change in there. When DH tried to pay for them they refused to let him do so. It made our day. ( (Wish I could find the picture DS took as I looke like a reject from a wet tshirt contest. It was not pretty.)

I love reading all these stories, but especially enjoy the "reverse" ones from the CMs! Thanks to all of you who make a family trip even more wonderful!

My family and I went to the Star Wars ride a few years ago. I talked to a CM about walking through the vehicle with my toddler to wait for everyone else on the other side. Another CM came up to us, told me to walk through the seats, but not to exit the vehicle. I followed his directions. So, I'm standing there holding my toddler while everyone else got fastened into their seats for the ride. The second CM stood near the front and appeared to be counting something. After a few minutes, I was told to exit the vehicle and wait on the other side for my family. Well, when my family exited the ride, they were so excited! It turns out we had each been given a lanyard with a plastic card from which we could break off FPs for all the rides in HS for that day!!!!! It was wonderful!!!! We still have the plastic cards! Thanks again, WDW! :yay:

Every time I see a thread like this I must tell this story. It's not about a cast member but a fellow Dis'er who we never met but is a friend in our hearts.

When my son was 5, we took him on his first trip to Disney. He knew from the beginning that he wanted to meet Chip & Dale, or "Chip and Dip" as he called them, LOL. We searched every day for them but were not able to locate them. on our last day which was at AK, we were walking out the gates and there they were!! I fumbled for the autograph book and pen and I guess I was too slow because the wrangler started ushering them away and refused to stop for my son. It was so sad to see my child running after them waving his book in the air screaming "Chip and Dip, wait please wait!!!!". A few days after returning home I was telling the story on here and a week later my son received a 5x7 autographed picture of Chip and Dale in the mail from a man on these boards. He had went out of his way on his vacation to do something for my family. I still tear up thinking about it.

Back in the day when my kids were in a stroller.....
We rented one at AK went back for a swim to our resort and then went to MK, and I forgot the stroller ticket. I am not sure how it works now but then if you rented it in the am and brought back your ticket you got one for free on the same day. I told the Cm at MK I needed to rent another stroller because i forgot my ticket from AK at the resort... and then no questions asked she let us have one no charge. It was so nice of her to take my word for it and I felt so relieved because i was so upset that i forgot it. It was probably about 5 years ago but I wont forget it. It is the little things that can make or break your day sometimes.

What a sweet story! My youngest calls them Dip and Dale. ;)

I just absolutely love this magical thread!

My DH and I took our first trip last year for our honeymoon, and the little acts of kindness from various CMs truly made our trip wonderful.

Our dessert at Le Cellier..

I'm sure they do that all the time, but if was the first time someone did that for us, and it was very appreciated.

Our waiter at Sci-Fi gave us cups full of caramel corn to say congratulations.

At a meet and greet, Woody made such a fuss over me, kissing my hand, kissing my head, etc. that DH thought he was gonna have to work to win me back. ;)

On EE, the CM saw our "newlywed" buttons and said if we were brave enough to get married, we were brave enough to sit up front and put us right in the front seat! Too bad DH almost got sick that time. ;)

One photopass photo made my DH get down on one knee, with the castle in the background, and had him kiss my hand. It is one of my favorite photos from our trip.

All such simple things, but all made us feel as if they really cared and truly wanted us to have a magical time. :)

I definitely take my hat off to the custodians walking around sweeping. They have always come to my rescue. They just always seem to have my back.;)

The custodians at DW really are the best. And they are far more than custodians, if you ask me. They are part of the magic, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd8VAEQnnpo

This is me and my daughter late night at MK heading out. Carl is the waterpainting custodian. A year later I still think this is really a cool thing to do. And what a great way to exit the park, with Carl doing Mickey Mouse and Phinneas and Ferb and Donald. He was a nice guy, said he was trained by DW to do these characters only. On his own, he couldn't draw water, he said. That whole custodial crew was awesome.:thumbsup2

Last Thursday during our trip we wanted to ride the Great Movie Ride. My husband had a GAC due to the fact that he cannot wait in long lines (not mobility related) Anyway, he showed the CM his card as we entered the line. We were directed into the regular line, which extended all the way outside the building, so we waited with everyone else. After waiting for a while my husband realized that the wait was too long for him and we exited out of a side door. A CM on the outside was walking by and asked us why we had to leave the line. I explained the situation and she said "follow me". She lead us into a back entrance and personally escorted us onto the ride. I thought this was the nicest thing ever.

This didn't happen to me but a friend of mine, but I had to share it.

She and her family went to WDW last summer right around DD7 birthday and cast members pulled out all the stops for her: button, call from Goofy, free desserts etc.

But with all this special attention DD5 was feeling a bit left out. After having all the CMs at their resort gift shop sing happy birthday to DD7 one cast member noticed that DD5 looked a little put out. He came up to the girl and asked if she'd ever seen Alice in Wonderland DD5 replied no and the CM proceeded to explain un-birthdays to her. He explained that un-birthdays were just as good, if not better than birthdays because almost every day is an un-birthday, at which point he gave her one of the birthday buttons but added an 'un' onto it. It cheered her right up! DD7 even asked for an unbirthday button to wear when it wasn't her birthday anymore!

I know they do it for everyone, but when we were leaving MK one night my son was wearing his brand new personalized Mickey ears and one of the CMs said "Good night Brady, we'll see you next time." He smiled all the way beck to the resort and really felt like he was special. He still talks about that nice lady who knew his name. I know when we return he will be looking for her!

We've had a few.

One we had was on our honeymoon. DH and I are walking through Epcot with our bride and groom ears on. One of the CMs who was sweeping one of the sidewalks called out to us, "Ooh, excuse me! Could you come here a moment?" DH and I looked at each other and shrugged, unused to the magic that happens when you don't expect it, and wandered over. He then asked us for our autographs! Just a little thing to make you feel special.

Then at the MNSSHP a couple of years later, DH was dressed as a Jedi Knight. As we're entering the park, an older gentleman CM who was greeting people on Main Street called out to DH, "Master Jedi, a moment if you please?" We headed over and the CM leans in and in a conspiratorial tone tells us, "Master Jedi, I have seen many Sith entering the park tonight. I, too, am a Jedi, though undercover. When the word is given, be ready to act." Dh nodded, wished that the Force be with him, and we continued on into the park grinning like fools.

Once, we were dining at Boma, and we had tried the Durban Chicken at the F+W the year before. We asked our server if it was on the buffet that night. He said he's check, and the next thing we know, he comes back with (looked like) a quarter chicken on a plate. Looks like they had it!
