I am taking German in school and today we got an assignment. We have to write a letter using different languages all mixed together. It is a "language" called Europanto. Our letter has to have a theme, so I am doing travel. We have to have a minimum of 10 words in another language other than German and English. As soon as I got this assignment, I thought to myself "Hey, I can ask my friends on the DIS!" So, I need to know words from any language other than English or German. I specifically need words relating to travel. You know, modes of trandportation or hotels, etc. You can send me as many or as few as you'd like, but I need the language, word, and English translation of the word. Can someone please help me? TIA!!!!

I just thought of another question. In the past, my German teachers have marked it wrong when I put Walt Disney World in my papers. They say (well at least one of them said) that World should be Walt, which is world in German. I think it should be World since it is a proper noun. My name is different when I am speaking a foreign language, so we should WDW be any different? What are your thoughts on this?

Here are some Dutch words for you...

Travel - riezen
Outing, trip - het uitstapje
enjoy oneself, have fun - pleizer hebben
bathroom - badkamer
hotel - het ho'tel
Did you have a nice holiday? - Leuke vakantie gehad?

And here are few French words for you...

Is there a flight to Paris? - Y a-t-il un vol pour Paris?
Can you recommend a good restaurant? - Pouvez-vous m'indiquer un bon restaurant?
What's the price? - Quel est la prix?
Why - Pourquoi?
Where - Ou
When - Quand

As a student of many languages, I think this is a neat assignment. There are actually languages that are used in international settings that follow a similar format...a smattering of words from many countries' languages. I am a sign language interpreter, and the international equivilent is called "Gestuno".

Hope the assignment goes well.

I always tell my students that when they are using a company name to not translate it into French. So Taco Bell stays Taco Bell, etc.
