Has anyone stayed at Silver River SP. It looks great on the web. OR can you suggest a place in that area to stay.

We are planning on spending one night in the Ocala area on the way down and 3 nights on the way home. We would like it to be the same place. We might try to go to Silver Springs.

:thumbsup2 Great campground, very large sites, new, very clean bathouses.Bring your bikes, plenty to explore,u can even walk/ride to the silver river. Silver springs is 5 mins away, great place for the young, not so great for teens.

Have you considered Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon, which is just a little west of Ocala? The campground used to be a private campground. The state bought it, and it was renovated in the past couple of years. I haven't visited since the renovation, but it is right on the river. This is a river where you can float down on an inner-tube. This is a great activity on a hot day! The water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, etc., etc. This river is amazingly beautiful!

This info is for us DIS people only-keep it under your hat!

Thank you, Thank you:goodvibes . I booked Silver River SP. I'll check out Rainbow Springs State Park while we're there. Sounds great for the warmer months(we'll be there Nov). I'll be sure to take pics to show the renovations(for DISers only of course:thumbsup2 ).

I see you already booked it and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We usually use this park as a nice place to stop and unwind on the way to Fort Wilderness.

This is a gem in the Florida Park system consisting of 59 sites in two loops. All sites are large and can handle any size camping unit. While there is not a lot of understory, the size of the sites makes up for it. Each site is level and offers water and electric hook-ups with at least 30 amp service (6 sites have 50 amp service). All sites have fire rings, a barbecue grill and a picnic table. Also available is a separate dump station for holding tanks.

After getting off I-75 it's about a 20 minute trip to the park. It was a little disconcerting at first because you drive through the heart of Ocala, but the park is worth the drive. Beautiful clean bathhouses with hot showers, paved roads for biking and trails for hiking.

Thanks DHs mom lives in Ocala proper so I'm thinking it's just a short drive to her place. We're excited about the park.

Rainbow springs is nice. It was our first Fl campgound. It was different from what I was used to. After we set up camp I was in love with the place. There is a place farther down the rode from silver springs that YOU HAVE TO visit. It is called Juniper Springs. I went last year and truly thought it was paradise. We did not camp there. I don't even know if you can. Just my two cents.
