I am a silver castaway club member. I am going to book a placeholder when I am on my next cruise.

On opening day for the September 2019 cruises - can I use the placeholder to book and receive the 10% credit and on board credit?

i want to do the Westbound atlantic cruise....

If you have the placeholder booked prior to opening day it should be fine as long as it’s not a placeholder blackout date.

Thanks.

if there is an option for OBB (on board booking <-- i just learned this!!)- is doing OBB better than using a placeholder? by better i mean in terms of cost, having the option for insurance etc...

Thanks.

The onboard booking advantage is that you are booking sooner rather than later, usually resulting in a lower cost since the DCL prices usually go up only.

Thanks.

There are two different things that can be done at the onboard booking desk. The first is to do an actual onboard booking for a specific cruise with a specific number of people. The deposit for that would be a percentage of the cruise cost. You would receive on board booking benefits for that.

The second thing you can do is book a placeholder. This is a flat $250 deposit, and you are not choosing a particular cruise at that time. This could be good when you're not sure when you'd like to sail again, or if the cruises you're interested in have not been released by Disney. When you applied a placeholder to an actual cruise, and yes it can be done on the silver booking day, you'll receive onboard booking benefits.

4 cruises so far and 3 were black-out dates. The first One, of course, was before black out days were a thing but since it was my first sailing no discount anyway! Darn school schedule’s!

But I was able to get a $100 on board credit except guaranteed was $50 bucks cheaper.
