Anyone have info and reviews of silver lake resort close to Disney Animal Kingdom? I am thinking of staying here when visiting Disney for the first time with my husband and two teens in December or early next summer. Trying to decide if we should stay on Disney property or not. Probably have to stay at a value resort if we stay on property due to budget. Silver lake would already be paid for through a resort certificate. Can't decide if we should use the certificate for an all beach stay or to visit Disney. Afraid of losing some of the " magic" by not staying on site.

Silver Lake has become our favorite resort. We have also stayed at Sheraton Vistanna, WBC and Cypress Point before. Silver Lake has easy access to WDW, Great selection of restaurants nearby and several grocey stores close. The property itself is very nice and the units were recently refurbished. The 2 bedroom units are large. Pool is nice and exercise facility is well equipped. The staff is great.

have not stayed there yet/

all the reviews that I have read are pretty nice.

if you can get a 2=bedroom would go for it

I stayed at Silver Lake back in 06 maybe, I know it was some time ago. I stayed in the Silver Lake section (in a 2 bedroom), not the points section. It was very nice then. I am actually going again next week. I will be staying in the points section this time in a 1 bedroom. I can let you know what it was like when I get back, I check out on the 21st.... unless I get to the internet while there :thumbsup2

We stayed there for a week in May and loved it. We had a one bedroom in the Points section, the 1000building, and it was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The furniture all looked new, and the condo had everything we needed. As much as we love staying on property, the extra space, quiet, and savings was enough to convert us to off site fans! The resort wasn't crowded, we used both the main pool and the zero entry next to our building, both were really nice. It is so close to Disney, it might as well be on property, the longest ride to a park was about 8 minutes. And like someone else said, lots of restaurant choices and grocery stores nearby, so good savings that way. Oh, and there is a DVD player in the bedroom, so we hit redbox a few times for our son. Highly recommend!

Does anyone know if this is owned by a large chain such as Sheraton or Marriott. I usually stay at Vistana and will again this year. I have found that if a large corporation owns it and there is a problem they will be responsive. I stayed at Liki Tiki, which btw is disgusting. I complained mostly about the urine stained pull out bed and they pretty much told me too bad. I had the chance to stay at Silver Lake this year but was unsure about it. The rate I could have gotten was great so I am filing this away for next year.

OMG I stayed at Liki Tiki over Christmas and New Years this past year. When I went down to the desk to tell them the dryer burned by clothing (I took it to show them) and that the shower was leaking out the bathroom and into the entrance way, they were nasty. I asked if I could speak to management, I asked very politely and quietly so others would not hear. She asked why and I whispered why and I told her I was trying to be low so other guests would not hear me complaining. She gets me what she called the manager, he was the desk manager. He comes with this other guy who I later found out was SECURITY! Security did all the talking to me, telling me that it was just too bad that the dryer did that and that he has the same dryer home and it doesn't burn his clothing yada yada yada.. it was a brand new washer/dryer combo and that it could not have done that. I asked him if he had the same new one at home and he responded back "well no" then I told him, just send maintenance up to my unit. Turns out the combo was defective, the unit was just renovated and the bathroom floor was not level! I had a roll in shower for the handicapped and the water instead of rolling toward the drain went the wrong way! When the maintenance guy went and got the renovations guy to show him, the bathroom door fell off! There were no other units they could move me to... and they did nothing for me! they put the door back on the hinges and that was it. told me not to use the dryer and to be careful when the floors were wet! I will never go back there ever ever ever..

That sounds awful!!. That is why I have not booked any of these time share resorts yet although I have a certificate. I have a budget I need to stay within however if I can swing it I do not mind paying a little more to stay at a place I am sure my family will enjoy without too many issues. I do not know who owns Silver Lake but it does seem to get very good reviews for the most part.

No, Silver Lake is not associated with a large chain. It is however fairly well maintained because the developer is still actively involved, and the property is really only a bit more than half-way developed to its original plan. Usually this is a good sign as the developer needs to keep standards high to keep sales going - no one wants to buy in a run down resort.

Most of the older buildings (non-Silver Points) have now been renovated. I'm always impressed when we get the owner newsletter at the amount of effort spent on updating the resort. That said, we also own at Vistana Resort and prefer it over Silver Lake.

One of my friend told me about Silver Lake. I like to hear about silver lake. About resort, no doubt its one of the best.

I just came home from a one week stay in Silver Lake. I had a one bedroom in the 900 bldg, closest to the back gate right next to the pool. My unit was spotless, looked like it was renovated not too long ago. Staff were super friendly.

Only major complaint I have is their internet! You have to pay $26.50 to get it in your unit. I did not do that. They are suppose to have "free" wifi in their lobby and out by their main pool :lmao: yeah right! I never got it. After the second day I complained the the front desk. The woman was very nice and gave me the code that you have to pay for and said that it would even allow me to get it in my unit, another yeah right :scratchin. I did get the net with the code, but only by the main pool where I should have been getting the free one :confused3 it was slow & I got bumped off more often than not. I didn't get it in my unit at all, it kept saying "no internet connection". I asked several other guests and they all said the same thing.

On Thursday (I was checking out on Friday) a guest told me he complained and they had to reset the router for his entire bldg, bldg 1000. He suggested I tell them it didn't seem to be working for bldg 900 either. I did, they reset it and I did end up getting it in my room free for my last day/night there.

They do have 2 desktops in their clubhouse area that you can use for 30 minutes free of charge when all else fails... but like I said, other than internet problems, everything else was super :thumbsup2

It is the worst resort and that is why I would never go there again. It is a joke in our family now. My husband always reminds me that we had the opportunity to stay the whole vacation but we chose to stay for only three days. the write up was so good that we almost stayed TWO WEEKS!
That is why I hesitate to stay at a no large chain related resort and although Silver Lake had some great deals I paid more to stay at Vistana where I have stayed for years. I would really like to branch out but Liki Tiki scared me so much that I am afraid. :scared1:

This would KILL my family if they could not access the internet and to pay for it would upset me when wifi is almost an expectation like clean towels. I think I will check out Silver Lake b/c I have no idea where it is. Someone said it is near WDW can you tell exactly where? Does anyone have any photos?

Location is nearer the WDW West Gate area. It's off 192/Irlo Bronson at Sherbeth Road. Sherbeth actually gives you a "sneak" access to AK; maybe a five minute drive to that park. It is very close to the Holiday Inn Vacation Club's Orange Lake Resort. Good grocery/big box shopping and chain dining in the area.

As for Internet, Vistana has started charging for "good" service now. The original (slow) guest network is still free, but they charge for the new faster internet service (they even charge the owners who paid to put it in!)
