Has anyone ever stayed at Silver Lake Resort? We got a deal there through military travel and it looks great. However I was looking at tripadvisor.com and it seems some people were not happy with there stay there! Any info would be great!!!

Hi, I know for sure there is old part and new part...good deals may be in the old part..but NO QUESTION, this is the absolute best location to get to Disney World in just a couple of minutes from the new entrance off Sherberth road...
We stayed in a one bedroom old part many years ago and it was fine...huge condo with one bedroom and two baths...Maybe someone has had more recent experience, but I always marvel at how they got this location because you are right next door to the Disney property...

Good Luck...Ted

If you look down a few topics, there are some threads with info on them.

Silver Lake is one of our favorites in Orlando. The location cannot be beat and there is a nice pool area with a pool/snack bar...love it

This is a very good resort, I-Heart.
I started a thread on this that is still floating around. I was looking for updates since we are going back this August.
We stayed there in '02 and '03 and was looking for more recent reviews. We stayed in a 2-bedroom unit both times and really liked it.
There are older and newer units. As a general rule, the older units are slightly larger, but newer units slightly -- well, newer! But some of the older ones have recently been refurbished and sound pretty good.
We are staying in the 1700 building -- an older tall building right by the pool which was refurbished within the past year.
Now the resort is pretty quiet. We've stayed at Vistana and Hilton and they definitely are much larger and have a lot more going on. So maybe that's important to you.
Silver Lake has a very nice pool and, perhaps its biggest draw, an amazing location. You go out a back road and you are on Disney property (by Animal Kingdom Lodge) in about three minutes.
It has a nice cabana by the pool. I guess if anything, we'd like it to serve a little more food than it does. It's like slightly more than a snack bar. But the drinks were good!
I cannot imagine anyone staying here and HATING it. I'm not familiar with the reviews you saw, I'd like to read them myself, but I honestly believe you'll have a very nice time here. We plan to this August!

As I had said we booked through Armed Forces Vacation Club. We have a reservation but I am not sure what building we are staying in. I have heard if you ask for a newer room you can probably get it. I am really excited to lounge by the pool and be so close to Disney!!!

Thanks for the info!

We have stayed in the older units a year ago this week and it was nice too. We had building 700 which is the closest to the pool. Was everything brand new, no. Was it clean., yes. The resort is very compact and even the older buildings are close to the pool. The only building I would stay away from is 400 as it backs to a busy road.

Interested in Silver Lake info as we have a getaway week to use from Skyauction and it comes up once in awhile. Grammy

Is there a restaurant of some type on site? What does the snack bar serve (breakfast type stuff? Just burgers and hot dogs?)?

Does the pool have any slides or fun things like that? Are there children's activities near the pool?

Is there a shuttle to AK? How about shuttle service to other places? I don't want to rent a car for this trip, so just trying to see what options I will have.

From what I understand there is a shuttle service to the parks..... I am not sure about the other stuff. Sorry! I can answer your ?'s when we get back on May 10th!

No, no offical restaurant on site--I do remember that the poolside bar had dogs, and burgerr..don't remember what else and not sure about breakfast.

There is no slide or anything similiar at the pool Just basic pools...but they are nice. There is a rec center near the pool that has a kids activity center, game room and they have organized kids activities. We were at the park most days, but one day we were by the pool and they were having Ice Cream Sundaes.......

I just stayed there last month. It was wonderful. DH's grandfather has a timeshare through this company and lets us use it.

We stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom condo. It was great. Full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi and wide screen tv's. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We rented a car so I'm not sure about hte shuttles. They do have a gift shop and I believe it has drinks and maybe pastries. We stopped at Target first and picked up a few things so never bought anything there. I NEVER cooked but it was nice to have cereal and snacks on hand.

We did one day at the pool and it was great. They have a salt water pool that they say to use to cleanse the skin. The other pools are huge. No slides or anything. They have a kiddie pool that DD loved.

They have a tiki bar that serves alcoholic beverages adn food at the pool. The pool is open 7 am - midnight. You can grill at the pools too.

We spent most of our days at the parks, made lunch ADR's and ate dinner usually off site right on 192 or went out with DH's uncle. We did one pool day and they were giving out ice cream sundae's and they had a band out there.

I can say the condo was beautiful and wonderful. I hate to be all bunched up adn this gave us the room we needed. We don't stay at the parks until 8 pm every night so once or twice we would come back at 5 pm and chill out and unwind. Do some pool time. But it was a very nice time. We plan on staying there again!

The drive to WDW is literally 2-5 minutes. The resort is actually right behind AK. If you take the back way you end up right at AK. Neat. And on the way there you see the place where they hold auditions for the jobs of teh characters.

We stayed at Silver Lake in 2005 when we were engaged. The pool was closed for renovations at the time. The resort didn't look that nice on the outside mostly due to construction, but our unit was very nice. It was a one bedroom with a jacuzzi tub and a balcony. It was large so we must have been in one of the older units. The construction going on was probably the new units.

We rented a car so I have no idea about shuttles. The proximity to the parks is great. There was no resturant onsite (at the time) but you are pretty close to lots of dining options. All in all, we really enjoyed it. There was some pressure to attend one of the time share presentations, but we opted not to go because we were all there for 4 days.

We had no complaints.

We are owners at Silver Lake. We have a float week in the older section buildings 100 to 700. We much prefer them especially if we can get a ground floor unit as it is really close to our vehicle. As other posters have said location is the best. Exit out of resort turn left. Go to lights, turn right and you are now on the Osceola Parkway which is direct access to all Disney Parks. We use this route to go everywhere.

Pools are great the main pool is open until midnight. Bar serves salads, sandwiches, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, etc. and you get a generous portion. Grounds are well kept, the employees are always busy working on the property. Check in is a breeze, staff is great.

You can call ahead and ask for Kristi in reservations and ask her what area she has you booked into. And if possible ask her for a specific building and floor, she is very nice and if she can accomodate Kristi will.

You can access a map from www.silverlakeresort.com to show you buidling locations on property. If you have a 2 bedroom that sleeps 8 people you will probably be in building 100 to 700.

I don't recall a shuttle anywhere. If there is there will definitely be a charge. I would not recommend staying off Disney property without a vehicle of some kind.

Have a great time, you will enjoy Silver Lake Resort

yup last year it was $15. pp each way! & only left one time in morning ( I think a stupid time like 10 am & then return only one time at night.)

I'm sure its cheaper by taxi

I just got back Sunday from Silver Lake Resort.

Perfect Location!

We were in building 1800. The same building with the gym, business center, Movie theatre and gold simulator.

The very large pool was pure bliss the few times we used it.

ABOVE ALL... The BEDS! Pure heaven. You climb up into the best nights sleep away from home we have ever had!:goodvibes

I'l try to post a few pictures in the next couple days...

Staff was very nice and very helpful.

We were asked once about timeshare presentationa nd when not interested we didn't hear from that staff again.

So we just left Silver Lake and I cannot say enough great things about it! We stayed in the 900 building and it was so great. We had a one bedroom. We had full use of 3 heated swimming pools, a screened in balcony. We could see expedition everest from our room and even the nightly fireworks from Disney. The staff was very friendly and helpful not to mention they offer all kinds of activities.

We are already thinking of staying there again!!!

Read more in my post trip report!

We were there at the same time and didn't know it. We stayed at Silver Lake May 2-9th and were in building 900...I think. It was the last building on the left when you went out the back gate. Which can we say is awesome. I don't think you can get much closer to Disney property than this place. It was literally maybe a mile from the AKL and 2 miles from AK.

I'm sad to hear there was another DISer there and I missed it. I had my LGMH on my backpack but lost it somewhere mid trip. I did look for other LGMH's but didn't see any.

We also found this through the military and will stay again. We were in one of the recently remodeled buildings in a 1BR with a full kitchen, jacuzzi, screened patio. There was new everything, including big flat screen in the living room. It was quiet, clean, and staff was very friendly. I would reccomend this place.

Hello,
I've stayed at Silver Lake twice in the past, the most
recently was 2004. When I stayed there was only
one pool? It sounds like there are now additional pools?
I have a few questions:

Can you tell me about the present pools at Silver Lake.
Does anyone remember the prices of food items at the snack bar?
Is there any free wireless on the premises?
Is the back gate open for exiting/entering the complex?
What other things are new at Silver Lake since 2004?

Thanks......
