Sillybandz Warning!

Unfortunately common sense just can't be learned.

My grandson came over the other day with some Lightening McQueen silly bands that a friend had given him. He had some on his wrist and some still in the little plastic container.
They were called "MINI" bandz, and were about 1/2 the size of normal bands. He is only 4 so they weren't that constricting but they were tight, had he been much older he wouldhave had the injuries shown on the photo.
I am trying to come up with some kind of display for them now so he can see them. He has been told not to wear them since some of the bands are smaller than others and do cause some constriction.
Right now he has a zip lock bag of keepers and traders that he is allowed to carry when he visits his friends or trades in the yard.

Yikes! Boy am I glad that DS8 doesn't wear them that much. He collects them more than he wears them.

The irritation I can understand. I get that with my watch every now and then. So I just take it off for a day or so for it to heal up.

Apparently people with not enough common sense are leaving these on their kids for WAY to long..

I heard about this on our local news. I just figured it was common sense. Our rule is that DD has to remove ALL jewelry at night. I don't want her rolling over and having a bracelet cut off the circulation, or worse, a necklace choke her in her sleep.

We also have her remove stuff in the bath & shower, just so we don't have to deal with, "Uh...I think that just went down the drain." :headache:

I wonder how this kid was washing his arms with all of those on there? :confused3

This is my DD too. She would rather collect than wear. She said that they bother her wrist.

The constriction is what I was worried about with DS8. When he first got them, he wore a lot on his wrist. I told him not to wear too many otherwise they will get tight. I also have noticed that certain brands are smaller than others and are tight on the wrist. Thankfully though, he's not fully into them and very rarely wears his. When he does it's just for the day and then he takes them off.

I wear my SillyBandz 24/7 (yes, I'm 24 years old, but they're cute, and I have very tiny wrists) and I've never had any problem with them.

Another reason people should have to pass a test to reproduce...

There is no reason that any child should have something on for 60 days straight - bath, bed, whatever unless it is medically necessary.

Unless I'm missing something - the kid didn't. The Snopes article said he was wearing 60 bands for two days straight.

The regular siLly bandz shouldn't really do that. I can wear them without issue. We figured out that certain generics
are more fitted and will "strangle" the wrist/arm. We had some
given to us amd I thought it was odd that my kids were having peoblems
while a friend's middle schooler wore them like he old jelly bracelets..a tad looose and no issues. It was because we had a "knock off".

Silly bandz may be trademarked, but the name is applied like Kleenex. A publicly generic term.

In any case---we have had no issues with regular bands that are not even close to being tight. If they were, I would not let them wear them awake let alone asleep.

In that case I'll restate:
Perfect example why people should have to pass a test to reproduce. That amount of excess is purely unnecessary.

My DS9 got some from kids and school and his teacher. I then got him some Disney Cars ones, and I kept checking his arm. Any that were tight he wasn't allowed to wear. Now, a division leader at his camp gave him a carabiner clip to use. Now he has them on his clip and can put it on his backpack or his jeans :).

The clip is like this. I had picked up some at the dollar spot once at Target.

Perfect solution :)

:thumbsup2

The human race seems to be the only race where survival of the fittest has failed....:confused3

We don't let our daughter wear more than a 3 at a time and she can't wear them more than a few hours.

I refrained from
buying them.
In one week of VBS---I lost track of all the bandz my kids acquires.
An off brand pack is $1 and contains 10 to 20. Yes--kids and teachers kept giving it to them.

It is no different than the jelly bracelets of the 80s.

I would hardly define that as "excess".

The only pack my daughter got from a store was a shared pack of Toy Story thY I bought at Walmart and a pack of Princess she bought with souvenir money at Disney world.

The horror.

My dd has a bunch. She only wears a few at a time. She stopped for a little bit this summer when her wrist started getting irritated. Some of them are way too small to fit.

DD has her's on a carabiner clip. I think my DM sent us a bunch from one of the trade shows she attended. When the clip got filled up she switched to a shoelace. Her idea and it works wonderfully. Never seems to fill up. And she gets them in birthday gift bags.

Watch out...here it comes again!!! The Perfect Parent Patrol:lmao:

I'm far from the perfect parent. Just giving my experience on what we have allowed our child to do. Sometimes folks give me their experiences on what they have done with their child and I either take it or leave it. No harm no foul.
