For those of you brides who wore (or will wear) an ivory gown...what color tux shirt did (will) your dh wear? White or ivory?

Thanks!

If he wears white it will make your dress look dirty - I will do ivory and honestly you can not really tell unless you held white up to it

Thanks! That's what I figured, but I guess I just always think of tuxes as "black & white"...I have to remind myself that the ivory (both in the dress and shirts) is pretty subtle, not like banana yellow or anything! :teeth:

I was not involved in the tuxedo decision. I left that up to my husband and a tux shop here on the West Coast. This is what they came up with…

For our vow renewal, my husband wore a black tuxedo with a white shirt, an ivory vest, and an ivory bowtie. My dress was ivory and everything went together beautifully.

Here are a few photos that were taken under different lighting conditions:

I hope that helped.

Janet2K - Thank you so much for posting your photos (which were beautiful by the way)!!

I'm going to have to keep that in mind as an option. I can see how a white shirt with a different color vest would look a little "off" but the ivory vest looks really great!

By the way, what color were the your stephanotis blooms? Were those white or ivory? I was originally going to go with solid red roses (no embellishments)...but I'm starting to lean towards the hidden mickeys now.

I'm wearing an ivory dress and DH2B will be in an ivory vest with a white shirt ... I thought it looked okay but now I am wondering about the decision - although Janet2k - it looked great on your DH.

(just add this to the list of things I am overanalyzing about my wedding!)

I threw a bunch of different photo links at you so that you could see that it doesn’t really matter what colors are chosen for the tuxedo’s shirt/vest/bowtie. Everything blends together beautifully. And when people are viewing your photographs, they’re too busy looking at the faces in the pictures to really notice much of anything else.

Since nothing is really ever truly white in nature (except for those fluffy clouds up in the sky), the stephanotis blooms were basically ivory in color. Almost white but not quite. If you look at the thread that I was posting in regarding flowers last night, you’ll find links to photos of the flowers that were used in my bouquets. (Here is the main link to the photo album – but you’ll have to search for the photos – click here).

The stephanotis bloom is really a darling flower. Disney’s floral folks put together a beautiful bouquet for me. It smelled divine and was exactly what I wanted. Plus, those dang Hidden Mickey’s were just too cute for words. ;)

My DH wore his dress blues. However, my boys and my FIL wore white shirts with the champagne colored Mickey vests and ties. My DD and I wore ivory colored dresses. I thought everything looked okay together.

That's how I felt until I saw it in person. It looked wonderful in person (the photos don't do it justice). It had a very classic look and my husband's dark skin offset things beautifully (I wish I had dark skin, ~sigh~).

I didn't tag along when my husband, son, and dear co-worker & his wife went went to the tux shop for a fitting. The only instructions I gave my husband were "get a black tuxedo." I left everything else up to the tux shop. I trusted that they were the experts and wouldn't steer my husband wrong. And they didn't. I was very pleased when I saw him in his tux for the first time on the day before our vow renewal (for our MK photo session). He looked adorable.

But that is me. This is your wedding and it sounds like you need to get yourself down to the tux shop so that you may see for yourself what sort of outfit your future husband should be attired in. Only then will you be satisfied and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You only get married once. Or if you're like me, you elope the first time and then wait 20 years to do it right. ;)

Have fun planning and try not too fret too much – I know, I know – much easier said than done!

My dress is ivory and DF is going to have a black tuxedo w/ a white shirt and an ivory vest and tie. This may sound stupid, but i loved the look of the guys in American Pie: Wedding and they had what looked like a white shirt w/ an ivory sort of striped tie. I just think the ivory on top of the white looks really crisp. And Janet2K your pics just sealed my decision -- I love the way that looked in your pics!!

Hfehr1s, I haven't seen that movie but will definitely be looking for it now (gotta see those wedding outfits that you alluded to).

I'm glad my photos didn't scare you away from your decision. Had I not seen the white with ivory in person, I probably never would have put those two colors together. But it was a very nice look. Kinda classy since the two colors were close enough to almost disappear into one another, but subtle enough to almost stand out as complete separates. (I hope you can follow my convoluted prose.)

Again, for anyone who is unsure, visit your tux shop and let them show you what is possible. There is a color palette for every need. You'll find the one that is perfect for you.

My dress color was called Diamond White (very very close to pure white, but not as harsh; my dress was Maggie Sottero) and my husband wore a white tuxedo shirt....it looked absolutely perfect with my dress. An ivory shirt would have clashed, I think.

I went with DH2B to pick everything out, just didn't get to see it on him - yet. I also took my dad for his fitting but again they dont' rty on their actual stuff until two days ebfore! The white with the ivory looked fine and the other guys will be in blue vests so ... OKAY - ENOUGH - :-) no more thinking about it!!!

That's the part I have to remember! :-)

White with blue (his choice) vest...his guys all wore white with white vests...
