In our home, we have more than one computer, so we we never had to be concerned about more than one Ipod on a computer. I'm wondering if you have one home computer, and let's say mom, dad and two kids all have Ipods...can you put more than one Ipod on a computer, or does each Ipod need it's own designated computer? Would you need to load Itunes four separate times so that there are four separate Itunes libraries. One for each Ipod. I wouldn't think Itunes would let you load it more than once. It would tell you that you already have it installed.

Anyone know how this kind of thing would work out for a family?

My daughter and I each have ipods but we share one itunes library on my desktop. I just make a separate playlist for her with her favorite songs/shows that I then sync to her ipod.

We also have one Itunes and each individual Ipod has their own playlist that we synch.

I have also been wondering this - great question OP!!

Don't your itunes libraries get REALLY cluttered if you share an account. Of course I will be dealing with teenagers. I have my ipod on my laptop, so that is a non issue. My oldest has his on our desktop and he has SO much music. I am getting my younger son an ipod this year and was wondering how we could do it. He will prob want some of the older son's music, but not all of it because they have very different music taste.

I just thought it may get confusing because they will both have Nanos and can't fit EVERYTHING on the ipod at one time.. if they have to dump and reload will they have a problem?

also wondering you know how windows is set up with different users.... if Itunes was downloaded on son 1 user screen, will son 2 be able to access it from his user screen?

These are elementary questions prob, but just annoying details to me

DH and I had 2 iPods on one comuter and we did not share music. We were each set up as a user on Windows and when we logged on, we each had our own Itunes account.

Perhaps a portable hard drive is your problem solver. I saw on another thread here that they are on sale at OfficeMax website this week. Then you can install Itunes to portable drive for one son, and current desktop using son's Itunes Library remains where it is. I think it would work. :confused3

DH and I share one Itunes library. You can tell your ipod to manage music manually and that way it will not sync the entire library every time it gets hooked up to the computer. You will need to move over the individual songs you want on the ipod, but you can do it all at once as a playlist.

This is what we do too. If you run a pc with windows just set up a separate user account in windows for each person.

My husband and I each have our own iPod and each one is named differently (our nicknames). When iTunes opens, it knows which one is hooked up and which settings/songs are for it. We use a Mac which, I think, makes it a bit easier, too.

My DH and I use Macs, and we both have iPhones, he has an Ipod Touch, I have a Nano, and our DD has a Shuffle we can share the library with all seven of them, even my old Macbook that just kinda sits around LOL like other said, it will recognize whats attached and bring up the settings for each player :) and you can make playlists and only sync those certain playlists

We have about 7 ipods on our account. I have itunes on one computer. It is very convenient because everyone purchases what they want but we can put the songs into any playlist. That saves us alot of money! We buy the song once but if 3 people in the house want it they just add it to their playlist! We have separate playlist for each person so when that ipod is hooked up it syncs the playlist that is set up for it. It is easy to add or remove songs. I am completely computer illiterate but even I can do this!:goodvibes

We have a problem with this because the purchased items don't seem to carry over to the other accounts. We like to share TV shows, etc.

We've got my iPod, my DS's Touch, and my DD's Nano on the same account. I sync everything. DS's is set up so that only checked items will sync, and DD's Nano is set up for manually manage music and movies.
