Okay, so AKV is our home resort and we've never stayed there! Hopefully we'll be making ressies for our first stay there soon! I've been doing some homework on room requests, and I have a random question about the Kidani map:

When looking at the map, one side of the Sunset Savannah (the side opposite the pool) has a picture of a giraffe. The other side of the Sunset Savannah (the same side the pool is one) has a picture of some sort of hog? Does this mean one would see more giraffes on the side opposite the pool and more hogs on the pool side? Or are the photos just artwork? I feel silly for asking, but I'd rather see giraffes than hogs! :-)

Also - am I seeing this correctly? That one advantage of staying on the "giraffe" side, for lack of better term, is that it is on the same side as the bus stop? While the advantage of the "hog" side is proximity to the pool?

What you are referring to as the giraffe/map side is the Sunset savannah, I believe. We stayed there, in a room near the lobby. It is very close to the bus stop. We saw lots of giraffes, but I can't speak to the other side. There are different animals on different parts of the savannah.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Rumor has it they are not accepting some room requests at Kidani any longer - but I haven't been there for over a year.

There are two savannas at Kidani. The large one is Sunset and has giraffes, zebras, ankole cattle, etc. The small one near the pool is the Pembe Savanna. It has red river hogs, okapi, hornbills and a few other animals but does not have giraffes.

I just made a reservation at Kidani. They have a list of requests the CMs can choose from but I was not successful getting the CM to list them all for me. I did learn that "higher floor" is on the list but "lower floor" is not which is unfortunate since that is what I wanted to request!

Is this correct? The rooms on the "inside" of the W shaped building on the pool side are also the Sunset Savannah? While the rooms facing the "outside" of the W shape are the Pembe? Or do they consider both the inside and outside rooms Pembe?

Bummer that they've apparently limited the type of requests we can make. Guess all we can do is our best and hope for some pixie dust, right? :-)

Pembe is only on the pool side.

Pembe is only on the pool side.

Forgive me! I'm still confused! LOL!!

I'm looking at the Kidani map. The word "Pembe" is written on the outside of the "W" shaped building. So when you say Pembe is only on the pool side - do you mean Pembe is only on the outside of the pool side of the building? Or do you mean that Pembe is the entire side of the W that is to the left of the lobby?

I'm not saying this right! LOL!!!

Let me ask it another way: If I request "Sunset Savannah," does that mean I am essentially asking for an "inside the W shape" view room? Sunset Savannah could be to the left or the right of the lobby?

Edit: I think I've got it now! :-) An advanced search gave me my answer. I think! Thanks!

Map is at this link:

Pembe is only on the left edge. Both sides of the lobby on the "inside" are Sunset.

The map doesn't really nail down the location of the Pembe Savanna. The red river hog is shown in the wrong location on the map as well, making it seem as though he lives in the Sunset Savanna.

Check out the following map. Note the area of greenery that separates the Sunset Savanna from the Pembe Savanna. Note the pool area and the area that is above that. See how that area, the Pembe Savanna, wraps around the top of Kidani, but is separated from Sunset by the greenery.

Cut to the chase: if you have a savanna view at Kidani, make the following request: "close to lobby." You need make no other request because if you get that you will be on the Sunset savanna which has giraffes, close to a feeding area so animals will come fairly near for viewing, close to restaurant, pool, community hall, and busses.

If you need more on where the savannas are, look at the picture above. The very top of the picture is N, the left side of the picture is W. The Pembe savanna is that which is north and northwest of the building. All rooms within the w of the w-shaped building face Sunset Savanna.

Good advice except "close to lobby" is one of the request items they are no longer accepting, from what I have read/heard here.

Mixed reports on that. it was reported it was no longer a request and then reported a day later that it was a possible request again. Optional requests which I have not used could be close to community hall, close to lobby elevator, near front entrance, near main animal viewing area.

We just stayed at Kidani, room 7508. It was beyond perfect. Top floor, close to the lobby, and we saw so many animals. Giraffes and zebras were right below our balcony every afternoon. We've stayed there several times, and this was the most amazing view we've had.
