SO. I'm planning on seeing a few of the models in a month and then I'll find out what perks they have at that moment and then we're off to our cruise. So say I like the offer they have on board, do I have to sign right there and then? Do I have to come up w/ my downpayment and closing costs all at that time? Does that leave the guide that ash helped me to this point out in the cold? Do I have time to back out if I learn something that I didn't know on the ship?

THANKS to everyone for being SOOO AWESOME and upfront about everything! I plan on going in as educated as my little mind will allow me. :goodvibes

I have tested my DH a few times to make sure he was on board by saying "Hon, I don't think we should do it." I get the most puzzling and sad looks. Yep, he's on board. :lmao::thumbsup2

To get the shipboard offer you need to commit while on board. You can put the deposit on a credit card. The Guide that you first meet with will be your Guide from then on. If you buy from a different Guide, they share the commission.

Good luck and have fun. :goodvibes

The rules change frequently, but I believe that you are only required to put up a $500 deposit when you sign, and then you have 30 days (or up to 60 days, sometimes) to pay the remaining deposit. Closing costs can be rolled into the loan or paid upfront. Once you sign your paperwork onboard, you will be in the DVC system and able to make a reservation!! You will also be given a temporary DVC membership card so you can take advantage of any DVC discounts. Before you sign your paperwork, DVC will schedule a tentative closing date (approximately 30 days), after which, will finalize the transaction. You do have 10 days after signing to rescind your contract, and you also have up until the time your contract closes to make any changes (number of points, use year, incentives). Hope that helps. Good luck! :goodvibes

You guys SO rule! :worship: THANKS for all the public and private help. It's like a big family this DVC thing. You guys have given me lots of help! Anyone ever NOT kick themselves for not joining sooner? :rolleyes1 THANK YOU!!!!
I'm checking on some finanicng options here at home before we go and I think by that time, I hope to be well educated. *knocks on wood* :upsidedow

And we commiserate with each other when DVC pulls the rug out from us as well.

Le sigh, I'm sure. :( Just like any business. They all seem to look for that magic breaking point. Which thankfully for Disney, *knocks on wood* seems to be much higher than average. I hope.

Disney, maybe. DVC, not so much. Lately, they have been pulling that rug out rather regularly.

You can PM me. I'd be interesed to hear. ;) I think it's unfortunate but I am not surprised, by any company doing it. It seems when one gets a busienss model, they ALL jump on it. Other than the standard of making it cheaper for them and increasing profits, the new FUN model is to abuse your employees to the max because they are happy to be employed and you can abuse them. And if they quit? You get someone younger, cheaper and motivated.:mad:
If something doesn't get more expesive, then it means you're going to get less for your $. And more often than not, you get less AND more expensive all in one whack. Anyone else notice the sizes of food packaging getting smaller and smaller? Prices haven't gone down any. :rolleyes1

But seriously, I am interested in learning about the ups AND downs on DVC. I don't expect anything to scare me off BUT I believe forwarned is forearmed. :thumbsup2 :lovestruc

Check out the threads about valet parking.

I didn't read them but I saw the title. :sad2: I bet that was nice to have. Parking can be a BEAR. When I had my mom w/ us last time at the Poly, she brought her handicapped tag to park a little closer when we could but those slots were ALWAYS full. WAY off peak too. sigh :guilty:
