Signed up for Owner's Locker!

I packed a suitcase with all of our owners lockers stuff and took it down with us. There are 6 of us so I didn't have to worry about extra bag fees, and my husband has silver elite status so he gets extra bags for free. I then used the empty bag for dirty laundry and our purchases.

I'm thinking, these days liquids wouldn't be allowed in luggage (at least not carry-on). Does anyone know if you can ship a package directly to OL and they put it in your locker for you? UPS or FedEx ground is pretty cheap and seems like a reasonable way to get things started. Just curious.

No, they won't load your locker for you. Their customer service is great, but they don't want to be liable for your handling your property outside the container - which is a reasonable stance. However, you might want to check on UPS/FedEx rates - you can check a suitcase on some airlines for $25 (or less on some - free on Southwest) and it can weigh up to 50 pounds. I don't think you can ship a 50-pound box for less than $25.

be sure to make a list of what you pack in it and save the list - I thought I would remember and now don't! It will be like Christmas when I get there....

They give you a blank form which you can write on and then enter it at their site after you log-in. I filled in my form as I was packing my locker the first time, and then followed up after I got home. That way you don't forget. I love my locker, and I really love being able to travel with just a carry-on! I have made three trips since I got mine last summer and the convenience is wonderful. With most airlines charging for checked baggage nowadays, the Owner's Locker pays for itself.

Sorry to be slow in weighing in...was away for the weekend.

First of all, many, many thanks for all of the kind comments.

We deliver just about anywhere in the Orlando area. Over 300 resorts as well as private homes. We will also meet you to drop off/pick up your Locker as long as you are passing through Orlando by car or plane.

We do prefer that you ship items directly to your resort as we really don't like being in the middle if there's damage in the shipping process. Having said that. with the convention resorts now charging to receive packages, we are beginning to work with our Members so they ship their stuff to us and we deliver it to the resort along with their new Locker.

Just contact us through the Owner's Locker site if you have any questions.

I have been trying to convince DH that we should get an OL but he is not convinced....so I decided a visual would be helpful to convince him. We're going to SSR over Memorial Day weekend and then to BCV and VB in August...so I started creating my "Disney Box". I had an empty plastic bin sitting here that is a little bit smaller (21x13x10.5) than the OL size of 22x20x13. So I created my list (now a full 3 pages long) and started filling it. It is stuffed now and I am starting to just pile stuff on top of it. I am just almost done with my "pretend OL". I just weighed it and it's 29 Lbs including the stuff piled on top...so allowing that I am not quite done & that my scale could be off a pound in either direction I began pricing the cost of mailing the contents down ahead of time VS checking a bag for everything at $15 per flight (then I would have to use a bag that folds up so I could bring it home - so it would need to be large enough and sturdy enough yet foldable).

Anyway, I just called the SSR phone # on my confirmation and asked about this charge to receive packages and was told not at SSR. I asked the CM to double check with a supervisor and he supposedly did. So I went to USPS.com and put in some approx. dimensions based on the size of the OL and my bin, figuring I'll look for a similar size box to package it all in. The Parcel Post price (cheapest) does vary a few dollars according to the size box I use. If I use the exact OL size of 22x20x13 and 30 Lbs it is $27.22. If I change the dimensions down to 20x15x12 & use 32 Lbs it goes down to $24.37 even tho it's an additional 2 Lbs, it's smaller in size so that affects it a little. From my mailing PO zip code to SSR it says 5 days for Parcel Post, although I'm sure I would allow closer to 7 or 8 days "just because".

Anyway, I am almost ready to show off my box to DH and to let him know it's approx. 30 Lbs worth of stuff we could avoid packing each trip. I still don't think I could pack all of us in JUST carry-ons for a 10 day trip (bcuz I won't do laundry) but it would certainly help for taking LESS bags and our shorter trips would definitely just be in carry-ons.

Additional question to John @ OL..... We know we have 2 trips planned for this year but are not sure about next year yet. We may try to go again next spring over spring break to use our AP's again so that would be our 3rd trip within 12 months. But then we may not go again for awhile once the AP's expire. I know the DIS discount allows for 2 deliveries / year...but have you ever thought about allowing for some of the deliveries to be rolled over into another year rather than wasted? Like whatever that cell phone plan is - the Mom in the commercials is always telling the family there's nothing wrong with the unused minutes. They work the same rolled over or not. I was thinking that I'd hate to WASTE a delivery if we would have a year where we don't go as often...but then there might be a year where we go 3x within 12 months following a year where we only went once or something. Don't know if you follow that question, but just wondered if you ever considered that as an option or not?? I could see that being one more sticking point with DH in my attempts to convince him OL is a good plan for us. I fully expect he's going to argue that if I just transfer all of this stuff into the appropriate size bag each time that it's still cheaper to just pay the $15 per flight rather than the annual fee etc... And he would be right on that one. This is still going to be a hard one for me to win...

I wanted to add that we have never been charged for any package we have had delivered to any resort. We were just there in Jan at AKV and no charge for our 2 large boxes. I believe the resorts that charge a package fee are the convention hotels.

As mentioned the owners lockers are delivered straight to bell services so no package fee even if you were at a convention hotel.

We had a small box shipped to BCV at the end of Feb. When we arrived, we were told that the shipping procedures had just changed and they are now using a vendor for all packages.
So now, all shipments go to the same location now no matter what address you put on the box, I can't remember where it was, but when we asked for our box, we had to wait about 1/2 hour for it to be delivered to our resort and when it got there we had to sign for it and pay $5.00. Larger boxes are more expensive.

ADDED: Oh, I forgot to add, OL is well worth it even if you go down once a year. Not much to think about when you leave, just pack a small carry-on and off you go. No more 3 oz. limits, or anything else.
Some airlines charge extra for luggage, some are free, but for $99 a year, and being able to have everything there when you arrive... It's priceless!

I think I will be signing up. We are ending our trip with the DCL 3 night cruise. Do I just bring the tub on like it is a suitcase or a carry on?

We just got one too...:thumbsup2
Now I'm trying to make a list...:)
Have my Mickey Waffle maker to put in...:mickeyjum
And a few kitchen items...
pot holders, whisk, sharp knife..
Rain ponchos, fan water bottles
Bathroom stuff...
Maybe some Disney shirts...

Hi AA, I admire your persistence and I look forward to the day when I get to meet hubby and hear him claim that getting a Locker was HIS idea!! That's usually what happens with reluctant partners. About half way through the first trip, it just clicks.

The free Visits you get during the year can't be banked into the next year. I know this isn't what you want to hear. We looked at this during the Beta Trial and realized that the changes to our systems to accommodate this would be incredibly expensive. We decided to see if it was really an issue and to be honest, it just doesn't happen very often.

I think the best way around the skeptical spouse is the risk free trial. If you try Owner's Locker and don't like it for any reason during the first year, just leave your empty Locker at the resort and we'll refund every penny you've paid us.

kim, lots of folks take their Locker on a cruise. Apparently the Locker fits neatly under the desk. We have heard some stories of rough handling so make sure you are careful with glass items.

welcome aboard, suz!
