Hi everyone!

Firstly a bit about myself:
This is my first post on the WISH boards, until 3 weeks ago I hadn't done ANY exercise since I was in high school (over 10 years ago). 3 weeks ago I decided to get fit and I started the C25K program. My husband doesn't believe that I'll be able to do it, so told me that if I can run 5k by May he will take me to Disney! And this is a huge deal since we live in Australia. So I did a bit of research and am aiming for WDW Marathon Weekend. That was a silly bet for him to make, I'd do anything to get to Disney!

Back onto this Sunday:
My work is sponsoring 40 people to run in a 5k this weekend and they didn't have enough people so I said "why not?". I'm a little nervous because I'm not sure of the standard of the others, but I have already told them that I'm not going to be runnig the whole way. The furthest I've run so far is for 3 minutes in week 3 of C25K. So I know it's going to be tough, but I figured that I'd be doing a training run this weekend anyway so it wouldn't hurt. As long as I don't push myself too hard, and I thought it would be good motivation anyway.

Well that's longer than I meant, I just wanted to introduce myself since I've been taking inspiration from these boards for the last few weeks.

I'll let you all know how the run goes!

Congratulations and remember that even if you finish dead last you beat all of the people who didn't start.

Good luck on getting to Disney.

Join us over on the C25k thread!! You'll find lots of support there!

Walk, run, crawl it does not matter. You took the first step and that is the hardest one. Good luck and look forward to hearing your results!!!

Good Luck, hope to see you at the Disney Marathon Weekend :). Awesome race.

I did it!!

It wasn't fast, but I made it to the end using a combination of jogging and walking. And it's really given me a good idea on things I need to watch for. For example, I ran the whole of the first K (which I was so excited about!), but I pushed myself too hard too early because it meant that probably 80% of the 2nd K was walking to recover. But at least I know it is something to watch out for, not only next time I'm in a race, but also in my training runs. I'm going to try much harder to have a constant pace.

I'm on to W4D1 of c25k tomorrow, but I think I'll give myself an extra day to recover, I'm not feeling it yet but I'm sure I will be tomorrow morning!

And I don't have an exact time yet. The clock was 40:59, but I started at the back of the pack so it is probably 20 seconds faster, I'll have to wait for the results to be posted. So it wasn't fast (about 30 of the 10K runners passed me!) but I was hoping for under 40 minutes but also had my more realistic goal of 45, so I was very happy:) especially for a first go

Good job, congrats. Yes, you learned a very valuable lesson that takes a while to fully master, the art of knowing when you're going harder than you should and backing off before you get exhausted. You will see huge improvements on that front alone as you figure out your pace, etc.
