We are doing regular free dining in 6 nights in December - booked last night:banana:

Just snagged a CG for 7.40 on a MVMCP night:cloud9:

but I would like your help in deciding between jiko or brown derby

Ive been to jiko before and we love it but I can get a 7.50 brown derby seating which Im thinking would be neat because when we're done the park will be pretty empty.
How late will the osbourne lights be up and would we be able to go towards them?

We could still do Jiko as we are QSDP lovers and hate being tied down to adrs and the time it takes out of playing in the parks.

TIA

I based my decision on two factors:

1: The menu at BD, looks more appetizing to me, than at Jiko. Not hugely adventurous when it comes to my meals.

2: I don't like to leave the park, until I'm done for the day. You can end up wasting a good amount time getting from one place to another. Your mentioning of the Osborne lights tell me you are in DHS that day. Stay, enjoy the BD, then enjoy your MVMCP.

I haven't had a chance to eat at Jiko so i cant be very objective, but we did get to eat at BD and it was wonderfull.

DH ate at both in January and there was really no comparison the food at Jiko was wonderful from apps to dessert and the restaurant is beautiful. Brown derby was okay we had some good dishes and some very bad ones.

I think Brown Derby is better than many people on the dis seem to think (OK maybe not worth 2 credits on dining plan but we don't do dining plan so it's irrelevant to me). They do a good job with their fish dishes here and I've always been happy with the appetizers and entrees. However, Brown Derby is noisy.

Jiko is usually a bit more quiet. Although I think the appetizers are much better than the entrees, it's still a nice dining experience.

For your California Grill reservation, I assume you are NOT going to MVMCP that same night... watching fireworks from there?

For me, the answer depends on my park plans. I would not make a special trip to Animal Kingdom Lodge just for dinner unless I wanted to visit the resort itself. If at AK park, we like Tusker House and Yak & Yeti for meals and both are 1 TS. If at Hollywood Studios, I'd probably be just as happy with 50s Prime Time but we are having lunch there another day... so we will try Brown Derby for our dinner.

We loved Jiko in 2009. It was a wonderful way to visit Animal Kingdom Lodge (thinking we might want to stay here one year) after our day at Animal Kingdom park - only about 10 minute bus ride. The service was absolutely perfect and the food was delicious. I'd say Jiko is a more dimly lit and quieter dining experience, not so exciting for young children.

Going to Brown Derby for 1st time next trip for Fantasmic Package. If I just wanted a dinner and not the package, I'd probably just do 50s Prime Time instead. We really didn't think much of SciFi Diner and Mama Melrose, and I thought nothing of Hollywood and Vine (except characters were there). We are excited to try Brown Derby, despite some mixed reviews out there.

Thank you everybody so far.

I should clarify we would do Jiko on our AK day. Im not going from DHS to AKL to eat at Jiko
