I just got informed that I am getting paid for something I thought I was volunteering for :cool1: So naturally I went straight to B&H! My current set up includes:

- Nikon D5000
- Nikkor 15-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR
- Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6 VR
- Nikkor 35mm f/1.8
- Bower Flash

I saw this lens [Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6] and am curious if it not having VR will be a big deal. I am not a professional but I do take great pride in my photos like all of you here.

What I am looking for in general is the ability to get further reach. Is the 300mm vs. 200mm going to give me much more reach?

The other thing is that I would like to get better dark ride shots. I love my 35mm f/1.8 but I know there are better lenses out there for that. Any suggestions?

Your Nikkor 55-200 VR is a better lens, and the Sigma will be, largely, redundant. I'd consider an UWA.

I agree with Tom. The Sigma 70-300 was the first telephoto I bought and although it's a decent lens I rarely use it due to the lack of IS/VR. You're just fine with your Nikkor 55-200. Your cheapest UWA option would be the Tokina 12-24 which runs around $400, everything else is $600+. But like any glass, cheapest isn't always your best option (going that route is what got me the Sigma 70-300 that's now gathering dust!).
