I am still stuck with the kit lens and 50mm 1.8 with my XTi and I'm in the market for an upgrade. Two new lenses have sparked my interest. The SIGMA 18-125 3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM and the CANON 55-250 4-5.6 IS. Both have IS, but do the focal ranges overlap to much. The 18-125 would be my walk around lens and the 55-250 would be my long range lens.

the overlap wouldn't bother me but you might want to consider a lens with a smaller f number...nothing you have but the 50mm is good for lower light situations
plus if you live in the US the 55 isn't supposed to be available...http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Can...on-ef-s-55-250mm-f4-56-is-test-report--review
i think there is still a rebate for the canon 70-200 f4 L lens which isn't tons better speed but is a good lens. or the canon 70-300 IS is cheaper made but the optics are good, not as good speed again. don't know what the sigma costs but i am considering the 28-75 tamron ( f2.8) around $400 or you could go with the tamron 17-50( or 55 don't remember now) f2.8 and then get either the the 70-200 or 70-300

Both Amazon and Dell sell this lens (I've been considering). One of the photography magazines I get, I think Popular Photography, just reviewed the 55-250 in their last issue and they gave it good reviews. That's why I've been looking at it.

I don't know anything about the Sigma lens that you reference, and I really only know the 2 or 3 reviews I've read on the 55-250, which have all been positive. It's supposed to have Canon's 4 stop system, which theoretically gets you faster than the F4, but I think the reviews say that performance is debatable.

I just wrote that like I know what I'm talking about, I'm really just referencing the review in the magazine, and from memory at that.

hey...I found an online version...
