SIGH--Oh well

So I booked a 1BR villa at AKL for September through an RCI trade.

I called Disney today to get my Disney confirmation number. While on the phone I asked if I could put in a room request (I am aware that this is simply a request and nothing is guarnateed). I guess when I booked the only rooms available were Kidani Standard view. I asked if I could request savanna and he said it wasn't possible to put in that request since, like I said, when I booked only standard was available.

Now I'm a little sad. What a spoiled brat I am huh?

So my couple of questions: (1) I usually do the online check-in. Would I be better off NOT doing that this time and keep my fingers crossed that I can get/request a savanna view at check-in or does it not make a difference? (2) What are view request options for standard? I really don't want to overlook a parking lot.

I do not think the chance of a Savannah view is avail as they are different points values and a different type of room in the DVC inventory. If that was what you wanted, it would have been needed to booked that way via RCI.

There are no upgrades with DVC points stays. You have a DVC points stay. You will get a standard view (pool/parking lot) at Kidani Village unless your villa must be taken out of service and no other standard view villas are available. High floor may be your only option.

Don't get me wrong I am THRILLED to finally be staying at AKL. I am super excited.

As mentioned, standard view is a booking category, totally separate from the savanna view booking category. You traded for a standard view and that is what you will get.

There is virtually no chance of getting an upgrade.

But there are lots and lots of viewing areas around the resort. You won't have to go far to reach one.

I'm sure you will enjoy your trip.

We had a standard view near the lobby on our first stay at Kidani, top floor. It was actually lovely. We looked out over the thatched entryway, which has palm trees growing through it. It was pretty cool. Don't worry too much about the room view. You can go view animals in the viewing areas any time!

You may get a pool view that is just past the parking lot. I don't think it is very easy to get just a pool view without the parking lot as well.

But enjoy your stay. There are lots of viewing areas at the resort to watch the animals.

We had a standard view. Just below us was a parking lot but beyond that was a nice field with a pond. It really was not bad at all. Thanks to all the lovely windows up/down the halls you will still get to see lots of animals. I was taking the trash out with my sister one evening and we saw the most adorable family of giraffe walking by! Have a wonderful trip!!

DVC is hard line in giving you what you booked. For RCI weeks it's possible to find out while you can still cancel without penalty, but not for RCI points. We have a 1 & 2 BR in August for AKV, both Savannah view from what I can tell. I know one is and the unit code for the other unit suggests Savannah view as well.
