Has anyone been to Siesta Key? A friend recently "discovered" it and loved it. She lives a couple hours away, so she just drives home at the end of the day.
So, I'm wondering if anyone else has stayed there and has recommendations for lodging? I've seen places online, but it's hard to get a real feel that way. The beach pics I've seen have been gorgeous and I think we'd like to tack on a few days at the beach post-Disney next summer.

We used to visit our family in Sarasota every year back in the 80's early 90's, and would always go to Siesta Key.
One thing that is special about the beach, is the sand - It doesn't get hot, where you can't walk on it. If I recall, I believe it's some kind of quartz.
Very nice beach all in all.

I used to go to Siesta Key every single spring break when I was younger. My best friend's aunts owned a home there, so I can't help you with hotels at all. I have to say it is a fantastic beach, you will love it. I recently saw something about it on the Travel Channel and it said it's sand was rated #1 in the country,

Sarasota in general is a very nice town, I remember never being bored there.

Go a 20 minute drive south, to Venice, FL and your opinion will completely change. We're even losing our only movie theater down here!! :p :p :p

Siesta Beach is great, I love it. :)
