Side trip to St Pete Beach, Sarasota

Has anyone taken a side trip to St Pete or Sarasota beaches lately? Where did you stay and how was it? How was the road construction on the interstate?

In April we spent three nights at the Clearwater Hilton Resort at Clearwater beach. I know it is further up the coast than you are looking at,but it was a beautiful beach, lots to do within walking distance. Booked our room through Priceline.

I forgot to mention that there was some highway construction, but we were never held up because of it. Had to drive a bit slower through it.

We just did a 4 day WDW trip in July and went to St. Petersburg beach for 5 days after that.

While my kids had fun at the beach and there were no travel issues (there was construction but didn't slow us much on a late Friday afternoon), we felt like we lost something.

Personally, I'd scrap the side trip and concentrate on making the magic come alive in Disney. We didn't allow enough time and are going back this summer!

But no matter what you choose, have a magical trip!
