I don't usually visit this board too often. I mostly post over on the budget board and theme park board. However, we leave in just 2 weeks. For the last 3 weeks I have been sick to my stomach. I have had terrible pain in my left side and I can't keep anything in me. Everything is just running right through (sorry :( ). On top of it, I have had a general "sour stomach" all day pretty much everyday for the last 3 weeks. I have actually lost 10 pounds because of this.
Anyhow-- I am waiting for my bloodtest's and some cultures to come back. I am just sooo worried I am not going to get better before we leave. I'm pretty sure they are going to refer me to a gastro doctor if my bloodtests and cultures don't show an infection (I'm actually hoping they show an infection--- then they can treat it and we finally know what's wrong). I won't be able to get into one for close to a month. I'm really worried I'm gonna get worse while I'm down there.

Any advice would be great. I've been looking forward to this trip, now I'm scared I'm gonna be sick. So far, I've been still going to work everyday. It's just bad enough to be a nuisance (other than the 5-10 trips to the bathroom a day) and make me feel lousy, but not enough to interrupt my day and keep me in bed.

I hope you feel better soon and all of your test results are okay. Just take it easy

I don't know if I can help at all, but I was wondering if you have been on any other antibiotics recently? Some antibiotics can kill all of the normal intestinal flora and then a bug called C-Diff, that lives in the gut naturally, will florish. It can cause a loose stool and is at times, smelly.

I don't know if this is it, but I hope you feel better and are able to have a wonderful vacation.

Wow, 10 pounds is a lot of weight to lose in 3 weeks time. I hope you are okay. I think that if you have to see a gastro doctor that they should consider it an emergency and get you in right away. Especially since you've already lost so much weight. That is not good.

I hope you get better soon so that you can have a great trip!

That's one of the 6 tests they are running-- hoping the results are in within the next day or so. I was on antibiotics almost 5-6 weeks ago. Symptoms started 3 weeks ago-- and the doctor said the med I was on-- would of still been in my system. So they think it's possible.

The other thing was I was at an indoor water park about 10 days before it started. They are also thinking I might of picked up a parasite (name was latin) there.

Like I said I'm actually hoping it's one of these. They are both treatable, and then I can start getting better.

Did he start you on anything yet?

FYI, the CDT test shouldn't take that long. Try calling back and explaining your situation.

Is it possible to postpone your trip? I know that's the last thing you want to do. Like all of us, you've been planning, saving, and looking forward to this trip for months. However, no trip is enjoyable of you're sick. Even if they diagnosis whatever's wrong and start you on an appropriate course of medication, it takes time to recover. Even after your symptoms have disappeared your body will still be trying to adjust. You have to regain your strength. Day to day living is nothing compared to the hetic pace of a Disney trip. You really need to be in top shape for all the activities such a trip involves. Even if you think you'll just take it easy, don't forget, travel itself is stressful. I would postpone the trip until your body's had a good chance to recover. Best of luck!

I have no advice or suggetions, but I hope that you will be feeling much better soon

I caught a bug similar to yours, not quite as severe though. Dr thinks I picked it up at WDW. I was on a heavy duty antibiotic for 10 days and within a couple days I was feeling much better.

Hope they find out whats wrong and you are feeling better before your trip.

I'm sorry. I hope they find something to make you better. Postponing a trip is the pits.

I truly stuck to an all bland diet today-- and I feel better, not great but better. It's a possibility if I don't have a bacterial infection that I could be suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Alittle different from IBS. All the symptoms fit down to a "T'. So, I took the advice and started a mostly liquid diet, with small amounts of bland foods. I do already notice a difference in the bloating in my stomach along w/ other things.

I'm playing it day by day on the trip. The hotel is already prepaid (via priceline) so I'm gonna be out money either way. The worst of it is we are taking MIL, she'll be out her money to as she won't travel w/o my DH. Who won't go if I can't. All the more reason for her to lay into me-- she don't really like me as it is. I have another appt tomorrow w/ my internal med doctor, so hopefully some resolution will start.

Just really wanted to thank everyone for listening to me, it makes things better!!!!!:D

First of all I am sorry you are sick! I was in this very situation last fall. We too had a trip planned for the first week of December and I was sick In the same fashion you are from mid-October thru Thanksgiving. I was advised it probably wasn't IBS, as you usually have some history of symptoms leading up to it. After exausting all types of tests my Doctor told me I was having anxiety manifesting itself in physical symptoms. And tried to put me on an antidepressant! At that point I called my GYN, who went nuts and told me to come in there! I never did take the medication he gave me by the way:mad: It turns out for me I too had been on several courses of antibiotics early October, one on top of the other, and as a prior poster suggested it apparently had started the problem. THey gave me somthing to stop the cycle and sure enough after suffering for almost 7 weeks. It just stopped I took my trip never got sick once and knock on wood am fine! Good Luck!

To twinmonplus2new,

I'm glad you sought a second opinion rather than taking antidepressants. That's the most over prescribed drug in America.
Twenty years ago I had joint pain, fatigue, and low-grade fever. I was told it was anxiety related (I was in school at the time). Well, I sought a second opinion, and I have rheumatoid arthritis. No, that wasn't good news, but it was good to know what it was so it could be treated properly. I get livid when I hear someone is told its "in their head".

I agree I actually dropped my PCP of 12 years and we have a great relationship but over this. I sought another PCP. and to boot was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder that has been untreated for 5 years. Always, Always seek a 2nd opinion. I learned the hard way just because your doc is personnable does not mean he is the best fit for you.

By the way kind of off the topic... But when I went to get my records for the endocrinologist I now am seeing.. All over the outer office, There was tissue holders, pens, pen cups, sanitizing hand gel all compliments of LEXAPRO!!!! Which was the medication he was pushing on me. Call me a cinic but if your Doc is pushing a medication that he clearly has a relationship with the drug salesman start running!!!There should not be kick-backs for prescription drugs.
