My poor baby is sick, and we have 2 hours until she sees the vet! Poor thing had the runs last night, then threw up twice (all mucous looking stuff, not food!) and then this mornign I woke up to her throwing up twice more (this time just a yellow mucous like substance.) She's just not acting like herself and her gums are white, yet the earliest her vet can see her is 3pm today.

I checked her food and it is not on the recall list, so now I'm sitting here worrying what on earth it could be.

I just needed to vent, usually when she gets sick someone else is here, but mom is on vacation up at the world (3 1/2 hours from me). She is on her way home though. I just hope my baby is going to be okay.

Could be Parvo...you need to call the vet back and let them know how sick she is and that you are concerned that it might be parvo...she could be dehydrated and sif it is Parvo than there is no time to waste!!!!! I have had 2 puppys come down with Parvo and if you wait to long it could be fatel....tell them you need to get in know!!!!!

And even if it is not they should have told you to bring her/him in ASAp since throwing up and diarrhea....if they continue to tell you that you need to wait than I would find another vet that takes puppy illnesses more serious!!!

CAll them back and tell them that she/he is getting worse even if she/he is not....this way they will get her/him in!!!! I am a nurse and sometimes you need to make the situation worse than is so you can be seen faster...same goes for pets!!!!

OK we just got back from the vet visit (they brought the dr's in off of lunch after I called back)

Her bloodwork is fine, can't get a stool sample though. She was dehydrated and they dewormed her and gave her antibiotics just in case. I came home with anti-nausea meds for her, and she has another appt in the morning to follow-up and possibly do x-rays if she continues throwing up.

It may be as simple as an irritated stomach from food allergies, so we were sent home with new prescription dog food!

She threw up again as soon as we got in, the vet had me give her more meds, with the instructions if she throws up 2 more times we come back for x-rays and such tonight.

Apparently they have seen a similar type illness in other dogs in the area that clears itself up in 24 hours, so they want to wait it out and see.

I looked up Parvo, would that show up in the bloodwork? I'll mention it to them when I go in tomorrow if she is no better.

Parvo will only show up if that test is done for it....my pups had the yellow vomit, lislesness(sp) diarrhea(turned bloody after being put off for 2 days) and would not eat...also fever after a couple days...and was dehydrated.

Did they feel no need to test for it or did they just incase and not tell you? Also why are they going to do x rays? do they think that your pup may have swallowed something? And if dehydrated why are they not hydrating her ? I'm confussed??????? Also is there a 24 hr pet hospital around you or are they one incase she gets worse overnight and starts to vomit again?

Sorry for all the questions but have had some great vets and lousy ones and just want to be sure that they are taking care of you. My vet would have kept my dogs if dehydrated first thing. Also would have had me leave them there to be monitered at no charge...at least to be sure that the anti nausea med was working and if needed would have givin I.V.

So be sure that your dog is drinking even if no longer throwing up caus if not will only get worse....

After being a nurse for 22 years I make sure Dr.s in all fields due what they are suppose to do cause there are alot of them that dont...Good luck with your pup and hope it is just a 24 hr thing:)

I will ask if they did that test when I go in in the mornign with her. She has stopped vomiting (at least she seems to have) and is no longer having diarreah. She didn't have a temperature at all. They gave her IV fluids while we were there, but did not find it necessary to keep her.

They figured they would do the x-ray to make sure she didn't swallow something or that nothing was blocked/flipped over apparently.

This is the vet the breeder sent me to, as well as the volunteer group I work with recommends, so I trust them fully, they have cared for her amazingly over the past year. They didn't keep her because she showed no signs of anything wrong, hence they figure its the 24 hour thing thats going around down here.

She would eat if I would let her, but the vet said no food for 24 hours.

I appreciate the advice and will follow up again in the morning, and apparently the vet that I go to will go to the 24-hour clinic if she gets sick again.

The recall includes 47 brands...including Iams, Euk, Nutro, ALL WET FOOD only.

I also want to say get tested for Parvo...they do a bottom test and it tells them right away....

because...

my DSIS just had her 5 mo old lab puppy (hard to say puppy since he weighs 57 lbs)...diagnosed with Parvo yesterday and he is in the hospital now.:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

throwing up and diareaha are both major symptoms. good luck

:thumbsup2 okay so they did give her I.V fluids....and no temp...that is good than in that case yes taking her home was fine....I did not realize that they did that and no temp....glad to hear that she is doing better:cool1:

She's been eating pedigree this whole time, which is on none of the lists, I even called pedigree today to double check. Food unless it is an allergy seems to be a non-issues.

Thanks again everyone!

I know I left out details, today has been quite stressful my mind is still trying to gather up and process everything that happened.
