PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

The Centers for Disease Control said a passenger with tuberculosis has been detained after boarding a flight from Philadelphia to San Francisco despite being on a "do-not-board" list.

CDC officials said the passenger was detained and taken to a local hospital after a U.S. Airways flight arrived in San Francisco Saturday night.

The unidentified male passenger was apparently placed on a do-not-board list submitted to the TSA and CDC on January 8, 2010.

Investigators are trying to determine how the noticeably ill man made it through security checkpoints and onto the flight.

CDC officials said the risk to other passengers aboard the plane was low, as the flight was less than eight hours.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially deadly infectious disease that typically affects the lung, but can attack the rest of the body. It was once the leading cause of death in the U.S.

Symptoms include a cough, sometimes with blood, that lasts more than three weeks, chest pains, chills and fever.

I have never cared for the "security" at Philly airport, and avoid flying to or from there when I can. This is a perfect example of why.

.....and a great big "at a boy" to the moron who went to a crowded airport and sat in close proximity to others on a plane with confirmed TB despite being advised not to. What a dope! :sad2:

Exactly. Not to let the TSA off the hook, but who does something like this?

Not surprised at all. TSA in Philly is poor at best. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call and something will be done to get better trained people in there.

Philly's been having a few issues lately. Didn't their security dogs fail a test a few weeks back?

I don't like Philly at all. A few summers back when I went on my MAW trip, they LOST my wheelchair! (I was in a wheelchair at the time because of knee surgery, although I can walk now). We went from Philly to ATL, and when in ATL we had to rush for our connecting flight so we didn't notice the chair was gone. We had an escort. Landed in LAX and struggled to find a guard with a wheelchair. Didn't get my wheelchair back until 3 days later, we had to rent the one from LAX until we got to the hotel where my scooter was. :sad2:
Needless to say, I'm not happy with Philly airport.

Now that you mention it, I did read about that in the paper. I don't think it was even that long ago.

If I was sitting right around him, I would be very ticked off. With him, security messed up, but he definitely knew he shouldn't be on that plane. He should be forcefully quarantined if he purposefully puts the public at risk.

Feel safe. Feel VERY safe.

Is that a punishable offense for the selfish jerk who flew knowing he was not allowed to? If not, it should be.
