Sick kid at Disney- now what?

My DD also got strep throat at Disney in April. Good for you for getting a doc quickly. I think we waited an extra day because she was doing great just a little tired with sore throat which we assumed was seasonal allergy related. Our new vacation rule - pack thermometer and seek treatment if there is a fever. Glad to know there is a "Disney doctor". We ended up driving to Urgent Care.

We hung out at the quiet pool and had a nice day of rest and relaxation after her diagnosis while we waited for the meds to kick in. The doc also advised us to add Flonase since she was also a seasonal allergy mess.
We were up and on the slow go after 24 hours. It was our HS day so nothing too strenuous and then dinner at Epcot. She was done by 7:30 pm. Thankfully day 2 of antibiotics the kid was up and ready to go, go, go. We were at MK by 7:30 and she was totally back to her normal high energy self.

I hope your son is feeling better this morning. The only good thing about Strep is that they do bounce back quickly from it.

We did the sick kid thing last August. We ended up going to an Urgent Care. It was relatively cheap, they provided transportation and had the meds on site. Assuming your child feels up to it, as soon as he is on his antibiotic for 24 hours, you should be safe to go to the parks. They are no longer contagious after being on antibiotics after 24 hours. I've had strep numerous times so I am familiar with the protocol. Also see if you can get honey anywhere on Disney property. It's great for soothing a sore throat.
Good to know, thanks:)

So sorry to hear your little guy was not feeling well :worried: Hopefully he will be right as rain after a day on the antibiotic, keep us posted!

Hope the little guy is having a good recovery.
A good time for a reminder, trip insurance, for the $120 it generally cost for insurance. I don't travel without it. We buy it each trip, and needed it once for a dental emergency $550. Also, the rental car debate. I know the temptation for the ME is great savings, but there is so much competition during normal times, that we get a mid size car for about $120 for the week. My son or dh will get the smaller car, and we all ride the ME. They make a stop for drinks and few snacks saving the cost of breakfast service and needing to get up and dress to feed the kids early. We have also rented a partial for weekend rate for not much more then a taxi.

Well it wasn't an ear infection- it's strep throat. Not great since it is contagious but at least we have antibiotics now and we know who to call if one of us gets it.
Good thing you had the doctor come and get the accurate diagnosis/treatment. I hope your little one feels better asap and you can enjoy your trip to the fullest!!!

Oh that's a bummer! I'm glad to hear about the on call doctor though. How nice! Hopefully those antibiotics kick in and you all have a magical vacation! :mickeyjum

If you bought insurance, don't forget to file a claim. It was covered for us when DD caught the flu at WDW one year.

Thank you for the well wishes! The little one was so much better after 24hrs. After seeing the measles scare at Disneyland there was no way I would take him out with strep.

The doctor made sure to show me what paperwork to submit to insurance so hopefully we can get some reimbursed.
