I hate asking but I'm miserable! On Friday,Saturday I had a sore throat. Then Sunday I also delvoped a cough. By Monday It was a cough, sore throat and horse voice. Now for the last two days I cant talk, cant sleep (coughing all night). The cough is mostly non productive. Ive looked at my throat and its red and looks a bit swollen. I dont see any white pockets on my tonsils. The glands in my neck are also swollen and I have some ear pain. I also was running a fever monday night (99.6 and my normal temp is 97.0). I was really warm and spent most of the night outside (walking the dog) because it was cooler outside. Really its the fact I cant talk thats really irrating. I work in childcare but the only illnesses that we have had recently are penomonia and pink eye. Any ideas?

I say go to the doctor. If not, take some Mucinex DM, and advil. Lots of water. Don't talk. Sleep a lot.

Yep, see a Dr. before you go back and possibly infect the kids.

my boss told me to come to work, even after I told her my symptoms. Ive been over cautious with hand washing and not coughing except in a tissue. We also have super strict cleaning standards. I cant afford to go to the doctor ($200 before they will even see you) and the free clinic isnt open till Friday (and I intend to go) but I was just wondering what it may be.

sounds like what is going around at my DS high school...and it takes weeks to get over, unfortunately. Some are running high fevers, but most are around 101, 102...def sore throat, bronchitis sounding cough, swollen glands but not strep, just miserable. I hope you feel better soon.

First you really need to see a doctor....

After that DD has the same thing. She was at immediate care over the weekend then at her GP on Tuesday to confirm the diagnosis (I am a bit on the overprotective side with health issues). She has bronchitis and laryngitis, and by all means she is CONTAGIOUS. For the kids sake, please get looked at before going back in.

Good to know other people are dealing with this. I took DS to see his doc, did a strep test that was negative, said it was a virus and he's past contagion...echinacea (and some other herbs in a tincture) got him past the horribly sore throat, and neither DH nor I have gotten it (I got *something* about a week after he got sick but not what he had), but he's still going through tissues for his nose like crazy, and he's very stuffy.

His fever was never more than a degree more than his normal temperature, but his skin was SO hot to the touch for the day or so he had a fever. Very weird!

My dd brought this home a few weeks ago. She's still coughing. Her brother and I picked it up about a week later. We're still coughing too. My dsis got it after we had dinner together at Easter. She now has pneumonia. My coworker that I share a desk with now has it. She's 7 1/2 months pregnant and was home with it yesterday. :guilty:

It's VERY contagious. Stay home.

Everybody at my house has had it to. It takes forever to get rid of it. For me I spent two weeks taking Advil Cold and Sinus, 10 days on Amoxicillin and then 5 days on a Z-Pac. Now I am finally starting to feel better. I agree with everyone else if you are running a fever then stay home it is contagious. Hope you feel better soon.

Why would it cost over $200 to see a doctor? That does not make sense. The clinics here charge on a sliding scale and I'm guessing on a child care paycheck, you'd qualify for a much lower payment. My cousing was bringing in $1483 net and he paid $70 per visit.Where are you? A non productive cough could be pneumonia and your sore throat could be an infection that needs to be treated or might damage kidneys, etc. If I had my child in your day care, I would be soooo angry that you were working with such a new either virus or infection!!

strep is most likely.

When my son was 3-4, he caught a common childhood disease called herpangina. It's nothing to little kids really, but it packs a wallop for adults.

I was laid out for 3-4 days with fever and the worst sore throat I had ever had.

Go to the doctor! And given you work in child care I would not want you around the children until you are not infectious.

What kind of boss would tell a sick employee to come to work not knowing if you could make all the kids sick. How very irresponsible!
I sure hope you didn't listen to her and went to a Dr instead.
