Hi,
I will be visiting DLP with dp and ds (4) in a couple of months for the first time. Jack doesn't like people in costumes, well actually he's shy and doesn't talk to people he doesn't know well - costume or not. Does anyone else have a kid like this and did they get over it at all while at Disney?

We're there for 4 nights so think I will book a character meal for the end of the week, we can always cancel if it seems like a bad idea, but I'm thinking by then he might be used to the characters enough to say hello at least and might just like to see them. At the meals do they come round to all the tables so you definitely can get interaction with them all? Also, do they generally move on quickly if it's clear that the kid is shy and doesn't want to talk to them? I don't think me or dp will have much to say to Mickey and Minnie either!
Thanks

My kids are mega shy!!! We did a character meal when they were 3 and also when they were 6. The characters were fantastic with them. Mickey, Minnie and Pluto all did silly things to make them laugh which broke the ice and they then spent good quality time with them. When I look back at the photos Ewan and Erin were both beaming :)
It was brilliant! We did it towards the end of the holiday too. Erin was desperate to meet Rapunzel but when we got to the front of the queue (in the park) she went all shy so Rapunzel and Flynn took her doll Rapunzel and they got their picture taken with the doll instead of Erin as she was soooo shy!
I know the characters we met were all good! We are going to DLP in April and going to do a meet the characters again

I meant to say- my 2 are nearly 8 and they are still the same! The lady in Asda spoke to them the other day and they were too shy to answer.

DS was 3 when we went for the first time. And he was shy! He didn't go near the characters. So the characters left him alone and waved from distance.

That's all good to hear, glad they all had a great time! I worry that he'll feel disappointed if he doesn't get up the nerve to go near them and get some photos but I think I'm over-thinking it way too much! His favourite thing in the world is Cars and unless I've missed something noone dresses up as them so we're safe there, he can have a photo with the statues! He likes the Toy Story characters but probably won't be massively fussed about Mickey and gang, princesses etc anyway.

Our DD4 is painfully shy. It takes her 10 minutes to talk to Grandad when we go to their house.

We went last June when she was nearly 4. We made sure that she saw loads of videos of DLP on Youtube before we went, but even with that it took a couple of days before she started to come out of her shell.

We have just booked for this May and we just know that she will be off from the first moment we step onto Main Street!!

If your little one likes Cars, make sure you go and watch the stunt show in the Studios.. Lightning McQueen may make an appearance!!

Hopefully he will be just like Skyla and when he has got his bearings he will start to come out of his shell.

I am sure he will enjoy it either way, don't worry too much about him, let him just take it at his own pace.

Happy Planning!

The stunt show definitely sounds like one to go for (over and over again probably, knowing ds!), thanks. Jack is ok with his grandparents now but still finds his aunts and uncles a bit intimidating.
