Finally! After all of the requests, I've decided to put together a list of FAQ's regarding transportation from one place to another (from the airport to WDW, for example, or from WDW to Universal, etc.). This is a work in progress, so please feel free to reply to this topic with any ideas that you think should be included. Enjoy! :teeth:

IMPORTANT NOTE: All information provided herein is for informational purposes only, and may not be the most up-to-date information. It is your responsibility to check the accuracy of the statements provided with each company with the company itself and make sure you know exactly what you are agreeing to. In other words, no WHINING! :sad2:

WHAT ARE ALL THE TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES?
If you know of one to add to the list, please PM it to me, and if applicable, send me the link to its website. (Moderators, please feel free to edit as necessary)

Tiffany Towncars Tiffany Towncar Rates
Nothing mentioned on website as to what is included in rates. It has been reported on the DIS that they include a grocery stop (unknown length) and a carseat/booster, but to be sure, check with the company. Gratuity is probably NOT included in rates.

Now, for that eternal question:
DO I CHOOSE A TOWNCAR SERVICE OR THE MEARS SHUTTLE?

Answer: If you are looking at making the absolute cheapest vacation possible, and your party is 3 people or less, then go with the Mears shuttle if it works out to be cheaper than any of the towncar options. While there are plenty of both good and bad stories about Mears, they are usually fairly reliable and problems are few and far between.

That said, the consensus from members of the DIS is this: IF you can afford the towncar, then definitely go with the towncar. Lots of people see the value in having the personalized service and not having to share your vehicle with people you don't know. Just like the old addage, "You get what you pay for." Plus, if your party is 4 or more people, a towncar might actually be cheaper in the long run! One certain thing is that your commute from the airport to your resort would be about an hour longer by taking the Mears shuttle than it would be to hire a towncar/limo service.

Another way to look at it is this: for the most part, you probably want your trip to Disney (or USO, etc.) to be a special one. Why not add to that special feeling by including a personalized, private ride to your resort? This is something that is just not possible using the Mears shuttle.

HOW MUCH DO I TIP A LIMO/TOWNCAR DRIVER?

Here's a thread discussing this

OKAY, I'VE DECIDED THAT I WANT TO HIRE A TOWNCAR/LIMO. WHICH COMPANY DO I CHOOSE?

Answer: There is no easy answer. You have to factor in price and reviews of the company into your decision. For the most part, you probably will not be disappointed by any of the companies' services. However, if you want your service to go above and beyond, only certain companies will do that.
Here's a recent poll of DIS'ers telling which company they would choose
And here's a poll of people that had BAD experiences with one company or another.

I'VE HEARD OTHERS MENTION A GROCERY STOP. WHAT IS THIS AND WHY WOULD I WANT IT?

Answer: WDW is certainly not run by morons. They know that if you arrive for your vacation and you need to need purchase any necessities such as food/drink for your hotel room, toiletries, etc., you will pay top dollar for these items, thereby saving the money and hassle to take a taxi or other form of transportation out to a grocery or drug store.

Most, if not all, of the towncar companies offer a "free grocery stop" for all of their paying clients, allowing you to shop for supplies at Publix, Goodings, or Winn Dixie on your way to your resort (certain companies may limit which store you go to, others may give you your choice, check with the company). If the company includes this grocery stop as part of their service, they will probably mention it on their website, however it has been confirmed that Tiffany Towncars does offer a stop, even though there is no mention of it on their website.

It is highly advised that you take advantage of this grocery stop to pick up snacks, drinks, and supplies, rather than purchasing them at the hotel directly. You will save a lot of money and agony in the long run.

(bump)

Could we get this to stick at the top of the page?

(bumped again on 10/8)

Imporant things to know:

FL Tours accepts cash only - no credit cards accepted.

Tiffany Towncar - has a $5 off coupon for return trips. You have to print the coupon from their website and hand it to driver.

Happy Limo - offers $5 discount for return trips if you use Code MS5569 or say you heard about them through Mousesavers.com
Their prices might seem higher, but have the tip included (approx $10 each way)

Thanks so much for this thread, it's been a great help as I try to pick a service this afternoon.

Yes, TT does include a grocery stop. I know I have seen posts regarding this, but I can't seem to locate one right now. Perhaps do a search for "Tiffany Grocery" and see if it turns up anything.

I will add this type of information to the FAQ's as time will allow for me.

One thing that I would like to know about those transportation companies is what will be the final cost? Of course, you have the tip to give but I've seen some that have additional fees for almost everything. Tolls, fee to pass thru Disney gates (???), fee for international pick-ups at the airport, for baby seats, etc.
So what is the deal? Some can be factored in but others... who knows for instance, how much it costs for tolls?
What has been your experience?

I can certainly try to add to each company listed whether or not they include tip and grocery stops, but are there any of them that actually charge for international pickups or tolls? Most times these are included in the fare. Anyone else know?

Tiffany Towncar was an excellent service. Max our driver was waiting at baggage pickup with a sign with our name on it. Made us feel important. He assisted in getting all of our bags and loaded into a very nice, clean town car. He took us out the south gate of the airport and to a Publix for a stop. Wanted to get some bottle water and snacks. He was very helpfull in getting to the resort promptly and told us of his plans for pickup at the end of the trip. Towncars dont have to pickup an entire bus load of people to head to the airport so we left 1 hr later than the people we meet at the airport who took the bus

Highly recommend Max And Tiffany Town Car

Thanks for compiling this information, very helpful. Now, I just have to call up someone and reserve a towncar for next week (gotta procrastinate w/ at least one thing... right?:p )

Well, I will certainly open mouth/insert foot at this point, because having just looked at Happy Limo's site, I now see that they charge for tolls, international arrivals, and an additional $9 fee for Magic Kingdom resorts. Again, I'm compiling the information and will add it above as time allows.

You might want to list the coach shuttle service from Sanford.

I really think you'd be better off listing links and not listing prices or even specific grocery stop information. Too much work making it's current. I suspect even the limo services that don't promote a free grocery stop might give it to a customer on request.

Point taken, Lewisc, however I've found that a lot of the extra fees and such are rather "hidden" on Happy Limo's site, as in they are not exactly out there in the open with the rates, they are a good ways down the page where the rates are. I'd like to make sure people see that there are extra fees and things. Let me make an adjustment and see if this looks any better.

Sorry, I think you're giving Mears a bad shake. People only post if they have problems, the vast majority of customers get what they paid for. The trip is less expensive trip (for 1 or 2 pax) and it takes about an extra hour. Half an hour to wait for a van and an extra half hour for a few stops.

Towncar works well if you have 3 or more in your party, want a grocery stop or are willing to spring for a few extra $ BUT a lot of customers take Mears and are content with the service.

I couldn't agree more. I'm simply trying to take the "informed" point of view by printing what is listed there so that others can weigh the options for themselves. If someone is more interested in saving money, then by all means Mears is the way to go, and it's worked well for me several times.

Maybe if I say that "most DIS'ers prefer the towncars, but Mears is certainly a cost-viable option if you prefer to save the money for other things"? I'm open to suggestions....

Not having seen any other suggestions, I updated the "Mears vs. Towncar" question above, see if you like the new wording. :earsboy:
