When we go in May my son is determined to take his wife and kids to the beach. The wife and kids have never been to Disneyland or seen the ocean..can you believe it! :) Anyway..I don't know how this could actually work, since we have no car there, but is there any shuttle or anything that does excursions to the ocean? I think his best bet would be to just rent a car for the day, but who knows?

Car rental in DTD (Alamo); National has a location somewhere near the convention center (across the street i believe near the jolly rodger?)

we've been looking @ a few different tours ones...either to beach or Universal/LA tour...not sure if they're "good" or a waste of time? anyone book them before?

I haven't heard of a beach shuttle. Maybe check a bus route, or you could always try a cab, or even renting a car for a day might be cost effective?

I would definitely recommend it though if the kids never been to the beach!

We rented a car and agreed that it was a very good choice. We were able to tour Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguana Beach. It was not that far from DL. We rented from Budget and they picked us up at our hotel and took us to their office on Katella Avenue -- we could have walked.

We also took the LA tour last Thursday and I highly recommend it. There were 3 of us, myself, DH and DD15. We were gone from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. We were able to see downtown LA, Oliveria Street, Sunset Strip, Hollywood Boulevard, Beverly Hills, the Farmers Market, Santa Monica and Venice Beach. The stops at the points of interest were sufficient, in some cases they probably could have been a bit shorter. We thought that this was another great choice in that we probably went to more places than we would have had we gone on our own in a rental car. Plus the tour guide we had, Juan, was a wealth of knowledge and gave a running commentary throughout the whole tour pointing out things of interest. I escpially liked the collateral lender in Beverly Hills instead of pawn shop. He was able to give us many tips such as the best place to take a picture of the Hollywood sign, etc.

Love Dopey,
When you went on the LA tour, did you get to stop at the beach or just drive by? :confused3 We have 2 kids 8 & 11 and we are looking for something to do on a Saturday daytime so we can be back at the parks for nightime entertainment.Do you think for kids this age it would be worth the tour? TIA

hi there, we were at DL in sept...we decided to take a trip down to newport beach...my dh refuses to drive the freeways, but i convinced him to rent a car and we stayed on disneyland drive the whole way there...it took about 40 minutes and it was so much fun, the kids had a blast...the beach was beautiful and there were many little shops on the boardwalk...i highly recommend it and on our trip next year, we want to do 2-3 beach days on top of 5 days at DL, and a few relaxation days....renting the car was easy, it was just down the road and i remember it being cheap, less than 40 dollars for the day...have fun:cool1:

Yes, we stopped at both Santa Monica and Venice Beach. We stopped at Santa Monica for @ 1.5 hours and Venice Beach for @ 30 minutes. We had more than enough time to tour the pier at Santa Monica, grab a bite to eat and walk down to the water. At Venice Beach it was the last stop of the day and we just got off the bus to say we saw it and got back on.

I think it would be worth it if they are into the Hollywood scene and would like to see places they see in movies and on TV. I can't remember what an 8 year old is like very well. My daughter is 15 and she loved the tour. There were younger children on the tour and from what I saw they seemed to be enjoying themselves.

If your kids aren't into the movie scene yet I would suggest renting a car and going to Huntington Beach for the day.

I must point out though that the tour is a long day. I was tired at the end of it.

Wow..let me get this straight..you can just stay on Disneyland drive and end up at the beach???

We booked with the Grey Line California Tour Company, or the link is in one of the above postings. I had originally gotten the info on the Anaheim website. They have a number of different tours such as LA by Night, Universal Studios and San Diego. A couple in our hotel went on 3 and enjoyed all 3. Our bus driver was trying to talk us into going on the tour he was taking to Tijuana the next day but unfortunately we had to come home.

And, to the previous poster, yes, you can stay at Disney and take a short drive to the beach. If I remember right, its one right turn and one left turn and about 30 minutes of driving.
