I've just recently saw a picture of the walls of shutters loaded with pictures. I also noticed in a couple of the closer spindles that different pictures were piled behind the first one? Is this how you "group" images to buy later?

I'm not sure I understand this.

Also do photographers approach you to take pictures or is at certain times and places that they do this..ie when you board, formal night..etc.

Thanks

The "groups" of pictures that you may be referring to are actually duplicate shots of the same scene placed in groups by the ship's photographers.

While some guests may "group" pictures so that they can collect and purchase them at a later time it is probably not advisable to do so. The staff of Shutters is constantly re-arranging the photos as new are added and older ones shifted.

The best bet is to purchase the photos you want as soon as you see them and not to wait until the end or near-end of the cruise.

The answer to your second question is both. The photographers will approach you at various times and in different locations and they will also have designated spots where photographs (with characters, backdrops, etc.) will be offered.

Yes they will take your pictures at set times entering ship etc. But then they also approach you at other times to just have a photo taken.

The pictures behind the pictures are the ones where they notice the same people in the shot, they will group them together, others are where people are waiting to see what they want to keep and what they don't want. If you buy a package say 5 photos and 6 are taken on the ship, some choose to throw the one extra photo away so they wait till the last day to decide what to keep and what to get rid of.

When you purchase the photo package there are a certain number of trades that can be made (I think it is three). I traded three during the course of my cruise. I would hate to have "lost" a photo because I went back too late and couldn't find it. It is also quite crowded in Shutters at the end of your cruise. Get your business done early.

Could someone please explain the details of the Shutters package?

The professional photos at Shutters come in two sizes: 6x8 and 8x10. The 6x8 prints are $10 each, or you can get a package (10 for $85, 15 for $120, or 20 for $150). The 8x10 prints are $20 each. If you go with a 6x8 package, be aware that the formal portraits only come in 8x10.

This is taken straight from the PassPorter's Field Guide

Gee I guess the price has gone up a little. Our Shutters receipt from July 31, 2003 shows a charge of $84.95. Inflation sure does stink. I hope some of the other things listed in the PassPorter haven't gone up to much. We've based most of our budgeted/saved $$ on our last experience and what we have read.:worried:

Guess that's why DH insists on having a little extra saved...just in case.

If you plan on doing the spa that has went up..some of the things there went up A LOT.

We were on the 5/27 Wonder and purchased the 10 6x8 photo package. We were only charged 84.95 for the package. I even double checked our final bill and that is all we were charged.

All this information is great. Thank you. Could somebody please explain about the 3 trades?

The trades are if you purchase a package earlier in the week of a certain number of pictures, say 10, you may find some later that you like more. You could trade out a picture for the new one. They will take pictures of you on CC and you may like those more than a pool shot on the ship for example. I wasn't aware there was a limit on the number of times you could do this, but maybe there is.

No trade limit was mentioned to us when we bought the package. The nice part is you can buy the package the first day and if you don't end up with the maximum number of pictures, you can downsize the package.

We went with the 10 pic package and managed to never having a candid shot taken. We ended up with three 6x8 and an 8x10. The package amount was credited back and we were just charged the per picture rate.

The last night is a zoo in Shutters. Two hints...this past week they also set up a station just outside the normal Shutters area on the midship side. While the two registers inside had lines, the one set up outside had no one waiting and we just walked up.

Second hint....if you have Animators on the last night, do yourself a favor and use the aft stairs or lifts to get there. It was very tough for those people to walk through the Shutters crowd and it made navigating the Shutters area more difficult as well.

No trade limits mentioned to us either. Not knowing about the trading policy, I had dumped some photos into the bin early in the week, which I wished later I had kept. My advice is buy the package of 10 at the beginning of the week and keep even the marginal stuff. You can always add to the package or take a credit at the end of the week, and it saves you from Shutters in the final hours.

As it was I had a credit because we only had 9 candids over the week (most of which were of my 11year old DD who managed to hit photo ops I wasn't even aware of.....:)
