Shutter Island - What did you think?

My hubby and I liked it but yeah not the ending I expected. We rented it an donly had time to watch it once. BUT I talked about it at work after so that helps:lmao:

Loved it!

I actually like movies that are good enough to watch twice and catch all the stuff you didn't totally understand at the time!:)

:wizard:

We watched the movie twice.

We noticed waaayyy more things the second time around although we've yet to come to a conclusion if he's actually crazy or not..

SPOILER BELOW:

I think he isn't crazy and he just pretends to act crazy in the end because he doesn't want to live the life they're telling him is true. Does that make sense?

DH thinks he's just crazy. We both can find "evidence" so we have no clue what's going on. :)

I ruined it by completely guessing the ending at the very beginning...no shockers for me....sigh

That's what happened to me, too. I was very disappointed by the ending because I had been theorizing that very ending the whole time. It felt kind of "cheap" to me at that point, almost like the Classic Hollywood cop-out.

I did enjoy the movie, though, despite that part of it.

finally got to watch it.

but what was the law of 4??
& since leo found the paper under the bed,, it was pretty hidden, yes? if he didn't find it would you think chuck would have found it?

i didn't figure out the ending,:yay: although mostly during it, I kept thinking, if this turns out to be a "one flew over the cuckoos nest" ending I am gonna throw something at the tv. I almost turned it off more than once thinking I am really gonna be p'od at the ending.
even though the ending wasn;t all sunshine & rainbows, I can accept it.

glad I didn't read any spoilers before, although did read something, that I thought it all had to do with something supernatural going on:confused3

I loved this movie but I was a bit confused by it too. Luckily my 17 year old watched it and explained it all to me. :)

I NEVER guess the ending of movies and I think it's because I subconsciously refuse to. I just kind of blank out and watch the movie without thinking about it much until it's over.

OK. spoilers...

I still think there are three possible endings:

1. Andrew Laeddis fakes his relapse because he would rather be lobotomized than live with the truth that his wife killed their children and then he killed her.

2. Andrew Laeddis actually relapses.

3. Edward Daniels is tricked into believing that he is Andrew Laeddis.

I LOVED this movie but I only watched it once. I love movies that make you think and guess the whole time and that have twists. I thought it was great! I would love to see it again. I will probably end up buying it eventually.

I liked the movie, but I had read the book first, so I am sure that weighed into it.

I agree!! I definitely want to see it again. Hopefully I'll get around to reading the book one of these days too :)

This was my favorite movie of 2010. I thought it was fantastic.

OK... so SPOILER ALERT (LOL)...

I don't know about anybody else, but these are mine:

1. Andrew Laeddis (Leo) is crazy, and even though he has a breakthrough in the end, reverts back to his delusion and is lobotomized.

2. Andrew Laeddis is crazy, has a breakthrough, and then FAKES a relapse because he would rather be lobotomized than live with the fact that his wife killed their children and he then murdered her.

3. Teddy Daniels (Leo) is NOT crazy, pretends to have a breakthrough back to the personality the evil Dr. John Cawley tries to convince him is real, and then decides to have the lobotomy because he knows he can't escape.

Yeah, I'm going with #2, although I can't remember why now. I'm going to have to rewatch it. But Awards Season starts today, and I have a lot of catching up to do!! LOL.

My DH and I watched it about a month ago.

First of all, the musice scrared the living daylights out of me. From the beginning when they are driving on the island my heart started pounding when they would play the music.

My DH really liked the movie. I'm not so sure. First, I hate movies that in the end you find out most of the movie wasn't actually real (it just reminds me too much of the whole season of Dallas that ended up being a dream). And, I don't like movies that don't wrap everything up neatly in the end. When I'm finished I want to know exactly what and why (which is why I also didn't really like Black Swan). So, because of that, I have to say I liked the movie until the end, then it kind of ruined it for me.

I may watch it again though (not alone, that music really freaked me out :rolleyes1 ) to see if it makes more sense to me and if I like it better.

Yeah, that dang music, lol. :scared1:

I go with the the theory that he was Andrew, was "cured" at the end, and then decided to fake a relapse so he could be lobotomized. Mostly because of his line at the end which I am just paraphrasing now, "Is it better to live as a monster or die as a good man?"

My husband though, thinks that the cop really is a cop, Teddy, and is drugged and tricked into believing he is Andrew and is then lobotomized.

I have only seen it once though, this discussion makes me want to see it again! Off to Blockbuster :moped:
