I've heard that there is a 48oz steak challenge at Shula's staekhouse at the Dolphin? Has anyone braved this challenge? Or anyone got any further info on it?

My brother in law got the 48oz steak at Shulas in Miami Beach a number of years ago and I assume that it is the same at the one in Orlando. It is a 48oz porterhouse and is not so huge, just very thick. The challenge is that if you finish, you get a little nameplate put up on the wall in the restaurant (I think it is bronze). When we went, there was no time limit or anything and they really didn't watch carefully so he could have shared with us. His only problem with finishing was that it got kind of cold since it took so long to eat so he asked for some warm au jus and was able to finish (and then had apple pie for dessert!).
The steak itself was very expensive and he really wasn't that impressed with the quality of it (and none of us are really gourmets) but, if you really want the little plaque up then I guess it is worth it.
Good luck and have fun!

No sweatpants. It's dressy casual, you'll maybe find one or two people with jeans in there but you really should wear dress pants and a nice shirt.

Price is comparable to Ruth's Chris,Chart House,Morton's etc...
48oz is not that difficult,I've had a hard time with 72oz steaks though.
In Texas quite a few mom and pop's have had similar challenges but the meal was free if you ate sides steak and dessert.

My PB is the 44oz porterhouse for 2 at Ruth's Chris, lobster bisque and carpaccio apps, roasted tomatoes and scalloped potatoes(my portion, they are family sized sides)2 desserts,an after dinner cappuccino and a liter of pelligrino. In under 2 hours just under $200 with tip.Server was astounded,my family and friends were happy I was paying.
