Is Shula's as kid-friendly as the other Disney restaurants? We have well-behaved children, but I know the Chicago location discourages children. Thanks for the info!

I don't know if they discourage children or not-I was planning on bringing by 9 year old when we go our first night for my mother's B-day. I'm more interested in asking Shula's about the dress code-We are very casual on vacation!!

There were lots of kids there, and we brought our DS who has great table manners, but they don't have a children's menu and they aren't as friendly to kids as the other upscale restaurants on property, like Yachtsman and California Grille. I think you could say they "tolerate" children.

People were dressed nicely, they definately changed clothes after the park. But I think capri pants and a nice blouse would be fine, dockers and a polo for men.

Just FYI ... you can take your kids to Camp Dolphin for two hours for free while dining at Shula's. We have done this twice. My DD LOVES Camp Dolhin. They also give the kids dinner. I think they take them to the Fountain at the Dolphin. Just thought I'd let you know in case you want to consider this option.:D

Thanks for the info about Camp Dolphin!

I agree with the "tolerate children" comment. No Children's Menu certainly sends a statement to me. If you want a good steak (IMO better than Shula's) go The Yachtsman over at YC/BC. They are definitely kid friendly and IMO opinion the food & service is head and shoulders above Shula's.

Just in case any one is interested, they do wave the 10.00 sharing a plate fee with children. If your kids will eat steak, they are welcome to share with you. That is the plan for us when we go in Dec. with our 11 yr old DS.

"Tolerates children" is an at best. Any place with a dress code (yes, they do have one, it's posted outside the door and you'll be informed of it when you make the reservation) of smart casual, with no children's menu and free childcare while you dine is sending a pretty loud and clear message.

Our son since age 7 has loved this place. He is a wonderful eater but expects his bernaise sauce to be warm. At this place he is listened to, catered to just as if he were paying the check. He has never ordered off the kid menu and never would. My now 12 year old meat eater insists on Yachtsman every trip. We have always noted many guests in suits and ties who appear to be locals. There is something on this menu for everyone - even me - don't care for meat. Service is always fast and professional. Forget the Shula's attitude. You can be as casual or as dressy as you want at Yachtsman and no one cares.

Have fun!

p.s. They did a wonderful birthday dessert for my child one year - and it was FREE!!!!!!!!

I was told by management that the do not enforce the Plate Splitting Fee for children.

If you want to go to Shula's with your child I would. As far as the dress code. They will tell you it's resort casual but I have yet to see it enforced over numerous visits.

I also beg to disagree with the comparison between YSH and Shula's. YSH has deteriorated over the years and is priced comparably to Shula's.

This and the absence of a children's menu, I think pretty much sums up how Shulas feels about young children in their dining room! What do you need a building to fall on you!
IMO, Shulas is fine for children 8 or 9 if they are used to somewhat lengthly upscale dinners but really any younger than that is really pushing it. The younger kids will be much happier at Camp Dolphin and the adults will enjoy their meal much more also.

We have well-behaved children

You know how your children behave in restaurants and it sounds to me like they can handle it. Shula's, while being a nice establishment, is not V&A's. If your kids don't want to go, or you feel they are not up to Shula's standards on that night, you always have the option of Camp Dolphin. Children are to be expected at Walt Disney World. :D

We had dinner there in June and there were a handful of children. I would say most were over 5 yo. As another poster said, you know your children and only you know if they can handle a leisurely paced meal. I know my 2 who are now teenagers could have handled it, but had I the option of free babysitting I'd reconsider;)

As an aside, the dress code doesn't seem to be enforced, there certainly were people dressed nicely, but there also som theme park casuals as well.

What ever you decide, enjoy. The steaks really are wonderful.

We had dinner there 2 weeks ago. It was a Sunday evening and there were very few children there. We saw people in suits, people in sandals and shorts, people in Jeans, and relaxing resort wear. Had a great meal and some great Vino along with sharing an excellent chocolate soufflé. Chickened out at the last minute on the 48oz Porterhouse.:( Remember the feeling I had after attempting the Kitchen Sink and didn't want to feel like that again. However it seems pretty doable if all you eat is the steak. What we didn't like was one of the busboys downing Disney CMs, how he loves working at Universal as his main job, how he will never work for WDW etc. Really don't want to hear that personal kind of stuff when you are trying to relax.

I have 3 children. Would all three get to go to Camp Dolphin free while my husband and I ate a quiet dinner. Also, what is the charge for the dinner they feed the kids??
