Okay, I went on Shrek tonight. Here's my review. No, there aren't any spoilers. Well, there sorta is. Dont worry.

The story is set up by the storyboards outside the queue: Shrek rescues Fiona from the dragon and interferes with the wedding of Fiona and Farquaad and Dragon eats him, so he is dead. Now Farquaad is back from the dead (ghost) and wants to interfere in Shrek & Fiona's honeymoon.

You go inside and you become prisoners of Farquaad. The employees are mean, ala Haunted Mansion. It's in character, so it's actually quite funny.

The pre-show continues to set up the story, and follows the movie's high points (mocking Disney, more "adult" jokes).

From there, you move into the auditorium. The movie lasts about 13 minutes, but feels longer. And you really do see, hear, and feel the action. This is quite possibly the greatest 4-D attraction I've been on. Easily better than Muppets.

Soft opening is supposed to start on Saturday, after the AP preview ends. Just like Jimmy Neutron, there will not be express available until Grand Opening.

I give Shrek 4-D ***** :)

Thanks for the great review! Looking forward to seeing this later this month. DH, dd and myself are going to LOVE this but.......

Are there a lot of scary scenes (like being a prisoner..) for a just-turned-5-year-old? He can be a bit of a chicken - but if I can warn him that something is going to happen he does much better. I know this is not considered a scary attraction but anything dark or relating to dungeons can set him off....

Thanks!

The preshow area is kinda dark and is a "dungeon" and the emps say they're able to use any weapon/torture device in the dungeon. There's a ghost and some fighting, but nothing too scary scary. A couple of points where the auidence shreiked, but it ended up in a laugh afterall.

Okay - I'll warn him and see if he decides he wants to see it. Thanks!

GRR! When was AP preview?!?! We asked the employees there and they said they weren't having ANY previews for a WHILE! I was JUST THERE! I'm mad now! :(

Any seats moving.. jerky around?? don;t want to spoil anything- but I want to take daughter who can not be on "jerky" rides to the neck. thanks... leaving in 10 days :Pinkbounc

There's already a thread about this. The Official Grand Opening is the 13th.

Aruba-I sent you a pm.

I've heard the same thing about the Grand Opening party being on the 12th at 10:30. I guess maybe you could call Universal and ask? Or if anyone is going for the AP Preview, they could ask an employee there when it is.

My mom won't let me go to the grand opening nor the AP Preview (she threw out our invite. :( )! Will someone give me their review of the ride when they get back? I can't wait, and not being allowed to go until maybe JULY is killing me!! :p

AP preview was still going on today until 1:00 and then they let some of the general publc in to see it after that, there was a 30 minute wait as of 1:30. It is a great show!!! I would not recommend taking small children, with the darkness and lots of loud noises, there were some very unhappy children today. Don't miss this one, I think it is great.

My daughter 4 and I cannot be on a jerky rides. I don't like to get whip flash and get a headache. Is this ride really jerky like the MIB and the Spiderman ride?? We will be there in 2 days and I need to know soon! Thanks.

Shrek has quite a bit of motion (mostly up and down) in the seats.
However The front row of the theater is all stationary seating. (You still get all the other effects besides motion, however) Ask one of the attendants to sit there when you go in and you should be fine.

It was crowded Friday night... the AP Preview had people lined up from shrek to Nascar Cafe outside the park at one point. (and yes it was raining too)

I liked it a lot.

A few of us took photos and put them on http://www.ioacentral.com .

We were told the bit about the stationary seating in the front as well. However, after sitting in the second row, it was clear that the seats directly in front of us were bucking just as hard as all the others.

From the reviews I have read here Shrek is a gem but from other sites with a much less Universal oriented group I've heard not so pleasant reviews.

My only concern is the theming. From the pics it looks very nice considering the park is studio based and theming is more of an interior project.

What does the theater itself look like, ITTBAB or Muppets 4-D?

The theming in the main show theater is fairly minimal - there are banners and torches mostly, along with a surprise or two. Shrek has, by far, the most special effect lighting I've ever seen however during the movie itself, and the design of the room lends itself well to it.

I saw it, and yesterday (Saturday) it was open to the public in a soft-opening mode, but for the 3-4 hours I was there, it didn't seem like there was any technical difficulties.

Yes, I do like the movie, it's one of the best 3-D (or 4-D) movies I've seen.

The theater doesn't look like much, but it does "come alive" as you'll see.

I give it a 9 out of 10
