Showing up at CG with fewer people?

I know there is a 20pp charge for canceling outside a certain window..... what about if 2 of the 4 show up? I'm still torn about CG. Booked it for 4 to do with the kids, was pretty sure I was canceling if no sharing was a new rule, and now I'm considering checking the kids into a kids club at nearby hotel. But I'm certain there is no reservation availability for a table for 2 to officially book that and cancel party of 4. Maybe I HAVE to bring kids to still be able to dine there since booked for 4.

Anyone have experience along these lines? I've been able to book other places like Boma for 4 and give the kids option on arrival about dinner with us or kids club and the decreased party size didn't seem to be an issue. But there wasn't a credit card and 20 pp hold, either.

I made a reservation for 3 people at Akershus in Epcot. My husband wasn't feeling well and stayed @ our hotel. I went to my reservation with only 2 of us. There were no problems we just had to wait for a table for 2.

I booked several "cc hold" meals for Free Dining. I booked for 4 even though only 3 were officially going--just in case DH changed his mind and decided to come. I asked specifically what to do when the decision was final, and I was told by the CM that I would definitely be charged for the extra person if we didn't cancel 24 (or was it 48?) hrs in advance.

I can see them extending some pixie dust if you have legit. reason for not having the extra person, like illness. But the reason for the cc hold is so that people do not just "change their mind" and decide not to go, or for not all to go. Especially since the tables are booked in "even" numbers, so a table for 4 is expected to hold 3-4 people, and tables for 2 are reserved for parties of 2.

I canceled the extra person on our ressie (even though we just changed from 4 to 3, no table size difference), as soon as it was decided that we would only have 3 people. Again, the CM I spoke to when canceling said to leave all my non cc resies at 4 people, becuase that wouldn't cause a problem, but that it was good I called or we would have been charged for the extra that didn't show.

If you don't have $40 to waste then I would make that decision early and make sure to cancel.
