2 times in the last 2 months TSA has done a second screening on flights I boarded. Southwest was one, connection through midway and United leaving Denver.

Anyone else? It's not common but it does happen, or am I the only lucky one?

It happens occasionally, i.e. random spot checks. Or maybe you are suspicious-looking

Happened to us a few years ago at ORD. It was a connecting flight and TSA set up shop at the gate. They pulled a passenger every once in a while and swabbed their carry on and checked ID on everyone.

I haven't seen it in awhile but they can do spot checks.

I personally haven't had second id checks at gate but bag check yes and Dh says he had second id check. I do find it funny that the last 3 times I've flown out of a certain gate at my Home airport ( not a likely connection point ) that TSA has done secondary bag check on select passengers, and it has been at various times of day.

We always have to have our passport or ID plus boarding pass at the gate. Most times they don't check carefully, just make sure you actually have it but it s common practice at my airport.

I've seen it happen, but not too frequently. There may have been an issue, but just don't know. I do know that the TSA 'set up shop' just prior to the gate, and they had a system where they chose certain numbers of people to move to their line, prior to boarding. Bags and ID's were rechecked. It was like every 5th person or such.
I would imagine that if there is no 'issue', it serves to keep the honest honest.

Canadian airlines do this (the airlines do the checking - not CATSA). No screening of bags/body, just show photo id with your boarding pass.

Happened to us in Newark, NJ on MAy 18th, 2012 on our way to Orlando. TSA Agents were at the gate checking passports/photoid with boarding passes for everyone boarding on a United flight..

It happened to us last Oct flying out of PHL. We were lining up to board a SW flight and they asked us all to have our ID ready. I don't remember if they checked everyone's ID or just the people they pulled randomly from the line. They pulled the girl in front of me and I felt bad for her because they had her open her bags for a recheck etc. She paid for ECBI and before they pulled her she would have been the 5th person on the plane. It was another few minutes before I saw her board and a lot of people boarded before her.

I have been pulled a few times for additional screening before boarding in PHI, sometimes they just check BP and ID other times they have checked my carryon bag. Even with SWA they have always finished prior to the actual boarding so I was able to board in my boarding position.
