Showing ID at WDW "bars/lounges"

It is just a bad idea to not carry an id you never know what could happen. I bet you will be taking you cell phone so why not get a case that can be use as a wallet that is what I do at the parks so I don't have to carry a bag.

Something like this https://m.katespade.com/products/ce...r_8ARU0782_color=683&cgid=ks-accessories-tech

I have the same problem and they always ask for my ID. In fact I went out with my BFF and we went for drinks and they didn't ask us for an ID, but they ask for our ID at the movie theater to make sure we could see the R rated movie :joker:.
hahah, generally people older then me do not ask, it's always someone younger then me who will ask

Yes and that is actually a Florida state law. At Disney you are allowed to use a photo copy of your passport but at Universal you need your actual passport as drivers license means nothing to them there for internationals. Disney will take an English drivers license and a copy of the passport.

Had no idea about the passport thing! thanks!

it will be the best day of my life if I get carded at Disney! I suppose I should just be happy that at 41 I get hit on by guys 10 years younger than I am and most people think I am 10 years younger, even people my own age. I guess 20 years would be greedy :)

You would definitely need it to get into Trader Sam's after 8pm (I think that's the time) and Jellyrolls. Like others have mentioned, I believe it's FL law to have your ID on you anyway. I would never want to be without one. You never know what can happen.

Always carry your ID with you. As others have said, except in a few places you won't be carded to enter, just to purchase drinks.

I work at a movie theater and have to card for R-Rated movies, and my theater is pretty strict about it. I'm terrible at guessing age too, but I've found that most people who are of age will have their IDs on them. There's been a few kids who were probably 18-19 but didn't have their ID on them and I couldn't let them in.

They must have gotten much more strict in the past three years. We took DS to WDW for his 21st birthday. We were there the day he turned 21. He was so disappointed, because he was finally old enough to order alcohol & no one carded him. He would say, "don't you want to see my ID?" He finally let it go & quit offering. They also offered his GF alcohol without checking ID & she wasn't 21. Maybe, it was because we were with them. :confused3 I don't know, if him being with his parents made a difference, but he didn't get carded anywhere.

FWIW, we didn't go to any actual bars. This was all at restaurants & bars in restaurants.

I was just thinking about this! Any international folks with experience (with apologies to the OP for being a bit :offtopic:)? Last trip I carried my Canadian drivers license and was told I needed at least a photo of my passport too. Anyone else international have problems with a passport photo?

My friend wasn't allowed into Trader Sam's because she only had her Canadian driver's license on her. Next time, she brought her passport and was allowed in.

With carding around the World, i've found that World Showcase ALWAYS cards, and "late night" places like Trader Sam's and Jellyrolls always card me. (I am 22 and look in the 18-21 range). Other places are hit and miss; I've been carded for a beer at Fantasmic and also NOT carded for a beer. I would carry ID for safety.

You should always carry ID regardless. You never know when an accident or tragedy can occur and that ID is needed to identify you if you if you are unable to respond.

Oh no that's not good news. We're doing universal too, I'm only 23, BF 25 so we'll definitely get IDed, but I really don't trust us with our passports out in a different country when we need them to get back to the UK (and my mum who works in travel insurance would have a fit if we weren't keeping them in the safe).

Such a pain :(

Thanks for the info though :)

Your feelings are why so many international people feel like it is a ridiculous rule. I guess there were too many fake IDS at the major FL attraction and internationals driving under the influence that they changed ID and driving laws. Not sure which countries need it but some need a special paper even to rent a car and drive in FL.

Fair enough, just a pain as I don't take my passport out in the UK either, drivers licence only lol. Thanks!

FYI for international travelers. Last time we were at jelly rolls with my cousin which lives out of the country. He has his ID but not his passport we had someone at home take a picture of the passport and send it to us and that was enough.

It is weird that they won't take and actual ID but they will take a picture or a photo copy instead! I mean seriously it is really easy to alter a photo or a copy. :headache:

You need both with a photo copy. So they had already seen his ID and now saw that a passport also matched all the same information. Disney is actually the only place that takes the photo/copy everywhere else requires the passport to be physically present.

I've always just brought my passport with me, fingers crossed I don't lose it  Oddly enough I've only been asked once at Universal Halloween Horror Nights back in 2013, bought a drink there the following year and a few drinks in France at Epcot and they've never asked. I was 23-25 so I'm not much above the US drinking age. I'd rather have my passport with me and they don't ask for it instead of them asking and not having it.

Experiences differ but, to buy alcohol in WDW they will not always accept UK Drivers License - sometimes passport only.

I got ID'd in the Rose & Crown in Epcot (oh the irony), and even though I could prove I was 24 they would only accept a UK passport.

However the same thing happened in Be Our Guest and they accepted my Drivers License no question so who knows?

I have never personally been ID'd just to enter an establishment and I'm pretty much always carded for alcohol. Everyone should carry their ID at all times anyway so I don't think it is that big of a deal if you are carded.

My friend and I were at the Rose and Crown, and ordered drinks - they ID'd her and refused to serve her drink when all she had was her Canadian drivers license. They didn't ID me, and were happy enough to serve me two drinks which I shared with her (and I'm sure they were aware that was what I was doing - we ordered at the same time!).

She carried her passport after that.

Just wanted to clarify I was saying you either need Photo ID and a copy of your passport or your actual passport. They won't take just a photo copy of it with out additional ID like a drivers license and they won't take a DL with out at least a photo of the passport for internationals. Sorry for any confusion as I never said a UK DL would work stand alone.

Just adding Epcot especially World Showcase is usually the most strict because a large portion of servers are on the DICP or cultural exchange programs. If they get caught just 1 time serving alcohol to a minor they get sent home. To many of them it isn't worth risking their visa so they card almost everyone.

Seen this issue at other parks as well, managers called and every time they insisted on passport.

It's good to always have ID on you no matter what for emergency purposes or to replace a ticket etc they will require an ID.

Only place I was ID'd to enter was Trader Sams ... am I am well over the age.

We had a passport stolen years ago (not in Disney) and so I'm still a bit nervous about carrying it more than necessary. It's an awful situation to be in--we had to spend a lot of time (and money!) getting a proof of identity letter just so we could get back into Canada at the end of our vacation, and for years afterwards getting through security with the new passport meant extra screening. It's something that can be dealt with, but it really sucks to have to.

Like other international folks have said I've used my drivers license in the past in the World with no problem. It was only last trip when a server refused it. It definitely isn't the end of the world for me if I can't have a drink with a meal one day, but my concern for this trip is Club Villain--its costly, and I would be pretty upset if we were refused drinks there (since its a fixed price and part of the 'value' to me is that drinks are included). But there's time to think it through. Maybe I'll stop by guest services and ask one day before CV, or I'll just carry my passport for that one evening.

Thanks to everyone for talking this through! Apologies to the OP for diverting some of the conversation, but I hope we're all learning useful stuff here.
