Show Me Your Change Jar!

What a great and creative idea! And you motivated me to count my change in my jar - $30.50, not bad! Now to deposit it and keep saving for my next trip! :)

This is mine. We put all are change in it plus any money that we deem "Disney" money. Such as we sold something. We currently have about $45 in here. I will change it out when it gets to $95 and put it on a Disney Gift Card.

Please pardon the mess. We are in the mist of packing to move.

That's really cute! Ours is an old Disney juice bottle from years and years ago. I decorated it using scrapbook papers and punches. I tried to replace it a couple of years ago, but our adult son protested and said I would be throwing away part of his childhood, LOL.

I have a couple of banks we got from DW(castle and one with the gargoils from Hunchback) and then we have a large crayon bank from Toysrus. We used to have a pepsi bottle. When we turned that one in we got almost $800 dollars. Last year we turned in the money and got over $400 just enough for the deductible for a car accident I had.

i got a 3L bottle around 2/3 full!

last time i did this, i filled up a 3L bottle, came out to close to $300.

We use an empty plastic baby wipe container - the rectangle kind that you can press a little button to open the 'flap'. I use some of the quarters and pennies to make up the penny-press-machine sleeves (the M&M tubes) and the rest gets converted into gift cards.

I use a baby formula canister. I have been pondering on getting one of those water cooler jugs.

I have had the big crayon for years.

I initially cashed out $800 in the mid 90s for my first video camera (that paid for about half).

Then we cashed out a good chunk. I am thinking $1000 for our honeymoon in 2000. I would throw $20s in there...the benefits of living with mom and dad.

Since then we get around $500-$800 for each Disney trip which have been 3-5 yrs apart. Plus I put in all my free Disney gift cards.

We have a cookie jar shaped like a cow that my daughter and I throw change into for Disney. It's got about $30 in it but my husband is way better about collecting change than me. He has a bowl in a desk drawer, once it's full he throw it into a mason jar. I think he has 6 or so of those. it's his money, so I don't touch even though I really want to count it. It's his motorcycle fund since he wants to upgrade.

We have a coinstar machine at the grocery store which I've used before but they take a percentage. I'd rather roll the change and take it to the bank. The kids think it's fun to roll change.

On the other hand, I wanted to teach the kids that every penny has value so if they see any money on the street or elsewhere it's worth picking up. I have a separate little "found" money dish that I'm collecting that in and when it hits one year, I'll count it and show them. That will probably be worth one Mickey bar. :earboy2:

It just depends on your found money...Our found money last year was over $1,000. Of course, most of it was found in one fell swoop - spotted on the side of an interstate highway - I stopped for a stop light thought DH was crazy when he flung open the car door to get out of the car until he got back in the car with over $1,000 in cash. He's also spotted and picked up $10 and $20 bills on the side of the road and stopped to get them. He has an eagle eye for that kind of thing.

This is a little off the wall (or maybe in the wall), but a few years ago a friend told us that when he was remodeling his house he somehow made a hole in an upstairs wall and the opening went straight down into the basement. For years he threw all of his extra change in there without ever telling the rest of his family. He said every once in awhile the kids thought they heard money rattling, but never really questioned the sound. Years later when the kids were a little older he removed a brick in the basement and let the money spill out. Can't remember how many hundreds of $ he had in there, but it made for a nice family vacation.
