I thought that by making this a show me thread rather than an Assignment thread would keep it going longer.

There seems to be a bunch of us who would like more of an understanding on shutter speeds and shooting in shutter priority. So the object of this thread is that you only post images you took while shooting in SHUTTER PRIORITY.

Detail your image with: 1) Why you used Shutter Priority; 2) What you wanted to accomplish; 3) Exif data; 4) What you may have done differently and 5) any other info to go along with the image to help others learn and understand.

Some of you may think this is no big deal and can do it in your sleep. Well, help out a fellow DISer with your knowledge. Other who may think they don't know anything, well here is your chance to learn and participate.

We are all hear to help, learn and have fun. The subject can be anything, Disney or not. Please try to make it a new image rather than one you've had for a while. Use this as a reason to go out and use your camera and take some pictures.

Show us what you got and have fun!!

I am far from being an expert, in fact I am just learning photography after many years of taking pictures. We went to Disneyland yesterday so I thought that I would try to shoot some in shutter priority. I think the first thing that comes to mind while shooting in this mode is to try to capture the sensation of movement.

This is the waterfall at Grizzly River Run at DCA. I have been wanting to shoot moving water, but we don't have much here in Southern California. I should have waited until it was a little darker for a little longer exposure but it came out better than expected @ 1/4sec.

Again at DCA, this is California Screaming. This was my first attempt at trying panning technique. It is definitely a lot harder than it sounds. This was my best shot.

Shooting at these slower speeds I learned that you really have to have the right amount of light.
Looking forward to other more experienced input. This was a lot of fun.

Cool. I've tried it a couple times inside to help keep motion blur down but I usually just go up to ISO 1600.

You've inspired me to try it though. :thumbsup2 I was doing aperture priority the other day because I noticed a lot of people who's work I admire shoot in it a lot and it really helped me get nice photos(snapshot style) for a friend who had a birthday for her 10 year old. I've just been learning since March really as far as putting it all together so I did stay pretty tough in Manual to force myself to practice and learn. ;)

Thank you for doing this, Kyle.

Shutter speeds still aren't instinctual to me yet but I think I'm finally getting better with them. It took me a while to get a handle on which was faster and which was slower (along with everything else there is to remember when you're shooting).

Just trying to get a good exposure as well as show running water.

These carousel shots were interesting in comparing settings and focus.

This one was taken in aperture priority but could have just as well been in shutter priority since the time was what I wanted. I adjusted the aperture until the shutter speed was 1/6 s, about what I figured would give a nice motion blur.

Program mode could have given the exact same settings as well, just press the shutter button then turn the dial (Canon 30D) until the shutter speed is what you want.
