Some little twerp broke into my truck last night. The police just left. I was a little disappointed that he didn't fingerprint or have me sign anything. I guess I watch too much CSI.:p

I can't wait to find out who broke into my truck.

I hope they catch them, I know you feel violated :(

How annoying for you, Shannon.

Was much stolen & how much damage has been done to your truck?

Yes, I do feel violated. And, I'm livid.

W, from what I could tell, they stole about 20 cd's. The inside of my truck was trashed. I couldn't see anything else that was missing, but I haven't looked too closely, just in case the police needed to preserve what the truck looked like after the breaking in. I haven't even started up the truck to make sure they didn't do any other kind of damage. I'm thinking it was just some kids. An adult would've probably have known to get my cell phone chargers and my tv adapter and few other stuff. I had 4 Disney cd's stolen, as well as other cd's I or my kids listened to often. The thing that really makes me mad is my truck is parked about 5 feet from my front door.

My mom and dad's house was broken into several times, they never fingerprinted.

I hope they didn't take much and the police catch them soon.

I had a car broken into

They broke a window only to find someone had beaten them to the cheap assed stereo that was there

so they got nothing and I had a $150 bill to get a new window

TV has spoiled us...I've never seen police act anything like they do on TV! My MIL house was robbed and they barely took the time to talk to her. They took less then 500.00 worth of stuff. When my car got hit and run in a parking lot the police wouldn't even take a report about it. (I wanted it on the record for insurance purposes) they said if the damage is under $1,000.00 they don't bother...too much paperwork for them.

Wow monkeyboy....long post for you!:p

Maybe I should have said:
"Wow monkeyboy...you have a long post"

we had our car broken into twice - no finger printing, nor did they particularly invest any time and effort into catching the people.

i'm sorry it happened to you - i know how violated you must feel. i was really pissed off when it happened to us.

Shannon, that really stinks. :(

Yes, TV has spoiled us. Most local police agencies don't have anything to compare fingerprints to, even if they did take them.

They only fingerprint IF there is a suspect to compare prints to and/or it is a major crime. Breaking into a vehicle doesn't cut it - way TOO many of those and unless you have a witness pointing at a particular person I don't see much happening.

This is unfortunately a very common crime and people do feel violated anytime their personal space (home/vehicle) has been intruded upon. I don’t think you'd like your tax bill if police departments had the money and manpower to investigate all cases like this. Has there been a CSI episode where they have investigated such a (relatively) minor crime? NO crime is minor to the victim, but in whole scheme of things, this is pretty minor.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I worked for a major police department while in collage and learned just how common this is. That was an eye-opening experience for a kid from the suburbs. I now leave NOTHING of any value visable in a car.

I'm sorry Shannon. :( That would make me livid too! I hope they catch them soon! Do you have any idea who might have done that to you?

Back in the days when I was living at home, my parents were away and I was home alone. Someone stole the stereo right out of my dad's truck that was in the driveway. Freaked me out because what if they had tried to break into the house?! I was there by myself!

I'm glad you're okay though.

Did the police say what happens next?

I'm so sorry. I would be really upset too.

I remember a long time ago when my dad's friend's stereo was stolen out of his truck. It really creeped me out because I was home alone and his truck was parked in the driveway.

I hope everything turns out alright.

Horrible thing they did isn't it? Always amazing how bold ppl can be and how much they can take in just a few minutes. I'm sorry you don't feel like the police did enough. BUt the truth is, that even if they had fingerprinted thecar, it would have been very unlikely that got anything readable, and if they had those would very likely have been yours. Finding readable prints on tv shows all the time are just to make the shows work. I've known a few cops while my mom worked in a police department. And the truth is that even in major crimes there are often no readable prints left at a scene.

As for something to compare em to. There is a natioanl fingerprint database. But the backlog of adding records is so bad, I;'m not sure there's much of a point to it.

So I'm sorry your car was broken into, but I'm glad you still have a car, cause my dad's car was stolen from right in front of our house while he slept 1 night while I was at college. And just assure you the cops do look for stuff, It was found on a popular steal&abandon strip in Philly just a couple of days b4 my semester ended which left dad enough time to have the steering column fixed. It was a big Chevy station wagon, and we needed that car for all my stuff LOL.

Dh has a landscaping business and about 2 years ago someone emptied the trailer. They tried to steal the truck but didn't. Lucky we had good insurance! They didn't look for fingerprints either. In fact we had to go a nearby business to check their survalance (sp?) cameras. I KNOW all that equipment just ended up in pawn shops. But in the end we were better off because our insurance gave us more than enough to replace everything! DH was happy w/all new equipment! It's been a while....I'm waiting for them to hit us again so we can buy new again! ;)

That is one of the worst feelings - the feeling that someone could so easily break into your car and get away with it.

Several years ago, I was living in an apartment building that was pretty cheap - especially for the neighborhood. We also had a period of very poor management so we sometimes had less than honest people coming and going. During this time, someone broke into my apartment. The scary thing was it happened during the day and it was obvious the person was not afraid of being disturbed. The only reason I was even aware that I'd been burglarized was that the drawers of my jewelry box were out of the cabinet and stacked on top of each other. If those hadn't been left that way, I'd probably not have known until a long time later since all that was taken was some jewelry that I rarely wore... and of course they were the only things I had of value. What made it worse was they took my Mom's engagement ring, a ring from an Aunt and a ring from a family friend who had passed away.

The police did at least send a uniformed officer to make out the report. Nothing came of it, though, since I had no one to suspect (well, nothing concrete) and the officer said that someone could try to find finger prints but it probably wouldn't work because of the surfaces in question plus it would leave a mess.

Quite honestly, I stayed home the next day to "guard" my apartment even though I knew I couldn't do so forever. I still have no jewelry of value.
