Hi everyone ran race for life today on plymouth hoe and have three rather large blisters on my toes , now my questions is should I leave them to pop on there own or should I pop them

Dont think u should pop em wud leave them open to infection x
I can thoroughly reccomend the blister plasters that u can buy from chemists - they make the blister heal quicker and stop them from hurting !!
Ive used them loads of times and they are fab !!

:thumbsup2 well done for doing the race i wanted to do it this yr but unforunatly having the baby i had spd so was able to .

No don't pop them. get the proper blister plasters and you will be fine. It's like they put a new layer of skin over them. Well done on doing it

I always pop mine and then cover them. I find they are too painful with the pressure of the water in them, and would pop anyway when in your shoes which would be much more painful and rub more than if you pop them yourself by making a tiny hole with a clean pin, and getting the liquid out and then covering them with a plaster.

Well done on the race!!

thanks everyone for your support , blisters still not popped and legs are very stiff today but it is a small price to pay for a really good cause .

Well done on doing the Race.

I wouldn't pop the blisters. If you can, keep a little dressing on them and they will disappear when the skin has healed.

This is the best method for treatment of blisters that I have learned after 15 years in the armed forces.

1. The fluid should be drained from the blister using a sterile needle. Also ensure your feet and hands are clean to prevent infection.

2. The blister should then be dryed and a dressing applied. There are two options for dressings. Zinc oxide tape, or the better option is compeed blister patches.
Both these products are readily available from pharmacies.

Happy lancing.

I'm with you on this. Spent 10 years in the Army and always dealt with them this way (though not always with a sterile needle if I'm honest - especially at Brecon ;))
I always found the sooner the fluid is out the better it was for walking on again.

Sennybridge training area is somewhere that you do not want those blisters appearing.:rotfl2: I would much rather deal with them in Disneyworld. I'm guessing you were Airborne, I was in the Royal Engineers so i tried to avoid tabbing as much as possible.

I know this is late, but popping blisters is not a correct form of treatment. Opening the blister allows an avenue of infection into the body. Use mole skin around the blister, with a protective bandage. the mole skin protects the blister and also serves as a barrier so you can walk, etc. without pain. If the blisters are large, see a physician. if the blister does open, clean, and cover.
