Should we RD Dhs or go in later?

Party is 2 adults and 2 kids too little to ride ROTR.
I don’t know that we want to try for a BG next week since we’d have to ride solo and take up a good chunk of time trading off the kids and waiting around for the other person. If we decided to not join the mob at RD, will it still be chaotic at say 9? (For an 8am opening).
It sounds like all of the rides are crowded early now so no advantage to coming early if not going for a BG. We have our first fastpass at 8:30 (so could wait to ride until closer to 9:30). Are the walkways/entrance still a mosh pit an hour past open?
To be clear- I know lines will be long, I just don’t want to deal with the physical mass of people standing around at open, but I am not sure if thats any better an hour in. Thanks!

I am wondering the same thing and leaning towards arriving later. It sounds nuts at rope drop... maybe I could manage to do one toy story ride and maybe one character meet&greet (maybe - since the opening time has shifted from 8 to 9 for Olaf, TSL characters and Mickey/Minnie on many days since last week...) before our first fastpass window opens at 9:25.
All the shows start later and I will not be waiting in a 60+ min line with my two kids... which is what all rides are posting in the first hour of operation
I am not sure it’s worth the hassle
Plus I found a 8:05 reservation for trattoria al forno with Touring Plans reservation finder on our Hs day so I guess I will go that route
However I am interested in hearing what other people who have been there recently would think!

since we couldn’t get any FP for before 3 and having watched the wait imes in the AM, we are going in the afternoon instead one day and will try only one morning for ROTR Instead of 2. While we would like to ride ROTR, I don’t think I want to deal with the mob of RD now and having literally every ride have at least a 60 min wait within 30 minutes of opening. So glad we were there in October and got to do the awesome 6a-9a EMH—that was fantastic!

Agree! I realize those early hours turned out to be expensive for Disney, and there are concerns RotR will break down more if they operate it longer hours, but the fact that resort quests get no advantage other than 60 vs. 30 day FP in HS is frustrating. Even if they didn't operate RotR until 9, and didn't let boarding groups open up until regular park opening, it would be nice to have an early advantage on other rides. I have found evening EMH just don't have the advantage morning ones do unless you can hold out until the last hour, which is difficult if you travel with young kids. Plus RotR isn't open during late hours either. This past fall we had a 5 minute wait on Slinky Dog and walked on TSMM and Saucers when we arrived at 715am after a 6am opening.

I was there a little under 2 weeks ago, solo, and went two mornings a row to RD for a BG, and I honestly didn't think it was that nuts. I never did it, but you can always go and get in line at RD for an attraction you may want to ride but don't have a FP for. It was no different than a regular RD for me aside from the fact that people were all on their phones at park open instead of hustling to get in line immediately. I got the park from BWI about an hour before opening, found a nice spot on sunset to chill (it never did get crowded, street was wide open with people sitting along the buildings on the sidewalk), got my BG, went and got breakfast at Starbucks, BG was called immediately and I was on with my day. I of course am fine riding alone, I go solo often, but I wouldn't let that keep you from riding the attraction if it's something you want to experience.

We've decided on later. First FP is for 9:45 (MMRR), ADR at SciFi at 11:05. I figure ROTR will still be operational on my next visit in 3-4 years, and I can wait. My only issue now is when in the FP window to arrive! TP is showing a 30 wait for MMRR even with a FP.

I think I’m leaning on arriving at 8:30 so the crowds have moved some. I’d come even later if I could push back our FP+ but it is what it is!

That's more reasonable than what they show for my touring plan on March 4-opening day-they originally had a 47 minute wait estimate at rope drop (we couldn't get a FP so we plan on rope dropping MMRR) then they changed it to a 17 minute wait! I would love just a 47 minute wait without a FP!

Just remember that ropedrop is subjective - being there early enough to be at the front of the pack is very important!

I think it depends on what you want to ride. We did it Monday and didn't get into the park until 7:50. Still managed to get BG 33 and was on and off ToT in 10 minutes. The crowds were insane

If you are headed to SWGE or TSL, the crowds are big, and being at the front of the mob is very important. Much smaller crowd headed to ToT or RnRC at RD, and being at the front is not as important.
