I think the Britta bottle actually makes the water taste better, but you are not getting the same protection from the filter as you would the filter on your faucet or in a pitcher. The bottle's filter only filters out chlorine.
In response to all the positive talk about Brita - I broke down and got a pitcher. I looked at the water bottles but they didn't seem to do more than take out the taste - and I really liked the fact that there was an extensive list of things that the pitcher/faucet filters take out. Now I'm just wondering what's the best way to get the pitcher to WDW. Any suggestions for packing? I've saved the box - but I'm worried that it will get cracked. ???
