Should we go?!?!

Hello fellow DISers!

I have a quick question and would love your opinions. I am currently 16 weeks pregnant with twins, and we have an 18 month old DS. DS, DH, and I were just at WDW for two magical weeks in May/June but we have the "itch" to go back already. Just for giggles, we got a quote for the FREE dining in September and we were pleasantly surprised at just how affordable it is!

So, we're thinking about going back in September (9/04-9/11) (hoping to see the Doodlebops, DS's FAVORITE "band"!). My dilemma is this -- I'll be 27 weeks pregnant with twins. In Orlando. In September. Am I crazy? Will my OB even okay it? My pregnancy, so far, has been textbook. I feel great, babies are measuring just fine, no swelling or high BP or anything.

I have to make the deposit by Sunday (that's when the free dining promotion ends) so I'm curious to hear your opinions. Thanks so much!

Well, I would say you're crazy, but aren't we all? ;)

I went to Disney in September 2005 when I was 12 weeks pregnant with my second child. I left my DH and our 15 month old son home to have some "boys time" while I took a solo trip. I needed to de-stress!!!

Anyway, I did it during the free dining, stayed at Pop to save money, and it was a ridiculously cheap trip.

It was hot. Very, very hot. I was tired. Very, very tired. I envisioned that this would be a nice relaxing 4 days "off" from "mommy duty" and I would get to sleep in, do what I wanted, etc. Well, to be blatantly honest, I was miserable for most of the time. It was excruciatingly humid and hot. Those disgusting lovebugs were swarming all over the place (trying my patience). I was SO insanely tired for the whole time, it was unreal. I hated the Pop. The bed was so hard I could bounce a rock off it...the walls were so thin, I was awakened by the vacuuming upstairs by the mousekeeper EVERY morning, the place was SO chaotic, I couldn't stand the noise in the food court. I wanted to just sit somewhere quiet and close my eyes, but there was nowhere to do that at the hotel. I didn't enjoy myself near as much as I had hoped I would. My best times were during my sit down meals, since I was ALWAYS hungry!

By the time I was 27 weeks, I was DONE with that pregnancy. I actually went into premature labor at 26 weeks, and was sent home on partial bedrest. My "little" boy came charging into this world at 35w 5d weighing in at almost 7 pounds. He is now 15 months old and almost as big as his 3 year old brother!

What I mean to say is, "all pregnancies are different". My first pregnancy was a breeze, literally. It was textbook perfect. My second, not so much! I felt so huge so early on, I was in pain, couldn't sleep for most of the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, was battling preterm labor for the last 9 weeks of it, and in general, can honestly say that a FREE trip to WDW wouldn't even have gotten me to go there at 27 weeks pregnant.

I would think, with twins, by that time traveling will be risky. I don't know the airlines policies on that, or if your doctor would give you the okay to go.

Plus, if you book the package, you're bound to the 45 day cancellation policy, which may not be a good thing if something develops in the month leading up to your trip. You may find that at the last minute, you have to cancel.

Could you maybe go earlier? I think 27 weeks with twins would be pushing it! Especially in September's heat and humidity (and did I mention the love bugs?).

I didn't mind Disney preggo- but I live in South FL so I am used to the weather.
I know when I was preggo with my DS I went to Vegas for a long weekend right before the 4th of July and didn't enjoy myself as much as when I went for my honeymoon years before (end of June so weather was about the same)...people who say "but it's a dry heat" are nuts- if I want that I'll vacation in my oven.
Anyway.....first I'd talk to your Dr (mine OK'ed me flying to Vegas but I was borderline since I was almost into my 7th month.). Esspecially since it's twins he (or she) might say no and our opinions will mean squat.
If the Dr says it's OK I think you'd be OK if you take it easy & drink plenty. I think your comfort level will depend on what kind of weather you are used to (if you are coming from Vegas you'll probably hate the humidity.)

Definitely call your doctor. If it was one baby, no problem, but as I'm sure you're finding out, twins are a completely different ball game. My friend with a complication-free twin pregnancy was told from the start that she'd be on travel restriction starting at 24 weeks. My doctor has me on restriction starting at 34 weeks with one baby.
My sister's doctor also told her that if you go into labor away from your hospital after a certain point, your insurance won't cover it! :scared: So you may want to check with your insurance, too.

I think it all depends on your Dr's recommendations. I wouldn't do it, only because I tend to grow large babies and get uncomfortable early on. However, I think every pregnancy is unpredictable, and you never know what will come up between now and trip departure time. Whatever you decide, Have fun!

I would also make sure to talk to your doctor, but for my two cents I would not do it that far along and with twins, plus taking care of a little one, plus the heat. It just sounds to me like a risky situation that might not be wise. Good luck!

I went at 32 weeks pregnant, my second time pregnant at WDW first time I was 16 weeks, and my dr was ok with it but I was only pregnant with a singleton! If I were you I would call your doctor and ask what they think. If it has been textbook then it may not be a problem, who knows! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!

We're going 9/04 through 9/09 ourselves, but I'll only be 17 weeks along.

As I've never been to WDW while preggers, I don't really have any advice for you. I usually am pretty miserable from about 25 weeks on so I probably wouldn't go if I were you. But if you really want to go I'd talk to your doctor. Maybe you could have a wheelchair or something and still go.

I would say go. My mom went when she was pregnant with my baby-sister and she was a high-risk pregnancy. She was fine of course. But you cant ride much of anything but just seeing your family happy will make you happy and that will make up for not being able to go on rides. That is just my opinion and the decision is ultimately up to you and I hope you have a safe and happy pregnancy!:thumbsup2

i have twin girls..i was fine up until my 20th week..i started to bleed..turns out i had partial placenta previa..they put me on disability right after that doctors visit..i was told to take it easy..which i did..i wasnt on bed rest..they still came 9 weeks early..one was 2 pds and the other was 3..they were in the hospital for 5 weeks and had to come home on apnea monitors and caffeine..it was very emotional for us..to not leave the hospital w/your babies is the most empty and horrible feeling..we werent even allowed to hold them until 2 weeks after they were born..im not saying this will happen to you but we had no indication this would happen..i was healthy w/no problems. walking around all day may or may not contribute. this is what my dr. told me. i worked in retail so i was on my feet all day.

i know what the "itch" feels like..we're going in oct..but please think about it..you definently dont want to go thru what we went thru.

Do you want to have your babies in NICU in Orlando for 5 weeks? That is one scene I could imagine. Check with you doctor....I bet I can hear him now:rotfl:

I'm planning on going at 29 weeks in Sept, my doctor okayed it (barring any complications), but I just have one. I'm thinking that it won't be okay with two.

Wow. When I read this, it really hit home for me. Instead of being selfish and taking the chance that my babies could be born early, in a different state far from home (we're from NY), we've decided to skip this trip. It's not a big deal, really, in fact I feel good about our decision. I'm afraid if we went I would have been a nervous nelly the whole time and that's no fun.

But, good news! DH and I have decided to take the money we would have spent on the trip (plus some extra $$) and put it down on a DVC membership! It's something we've been throwing around for the past couple of years and we've finally decided it's what we want to do. So... the next time we're in Disney, we'll probably be DVC members! Woohoo!

Thanks again, for all of the advice and well wishes. DISers are awesome!

From a DVC member, congrats on your twins(fingers crossed that you have a trouble free pregnancy) and joining the DVC family. Trust me you'll love the extra room!

DVC--now that'll give you something to (day)dream about when you're not sleeping because of those precious babies!

Im glad youre not going there are no guarantees with any pregnancy. Im sure youll be fine but twin pregnancies can be tricky. I lost my twins at 19 weeks.Having said that life is for living and you cant spend your life worrying I think the dvc is a super duper compromise. Have a healthy pregnancy and congrats on both your bits of news.
