Should we go to Blue Bayou?

My partner and I are going in July!! We have not gone since becoming AP holders. We just were hesitant to pay that much for what we heard was "so/so" food. But after talking to others, we decided "What the heck!" and made reservations. Now that we have made them, we are excited about it!!!

I've read complaints about the food at BB but we eat there at least once each visit and we love it. We really enjoy both the food and the atmosphere, maybe we are easily pleased. to us it's definitely worth it, everyone we have taken there has enjoyed their meals, even the picky eaters. My vote, go for it and enjoy.

It's not about the food... It's more about the experience! You probably don't have to leave your home town to find excellent food. But how many times are you going to be able to eat dinner in a ride?

You can book dining reservations 60 days in advance. dining at blue bayou is one of the few activities I have pre determined for my upcoming trip. I've got an alert set up in my phone to remind me to book exactly 60 days out

We are also going to BB for the first time this Sept. I have always wanted to do it and figure good or mediocre I need to see it for myself at least once.
We will have DD4, DD2 and DD6 months with us as well, I cannot decide between lunch and dinner though.
Any suggestions over picking one or the other?

The biggest difference between lunch and dinner (IMO) is that there are menu selections that are offered at one and not the other. For example if you wanted the Monte Cristo, you can only get that at lunch. But if you were going to splurge for say the surf and turf (one of my favs) then you can only get that at dinner. We tend to eat an early dinner, between 4 and 4:30pm there in August and both times we have gone it has been super bright out but that didn't impact the ambiance for us.

The items that are the same are the same price so it really comes down to what you might want to eat when you are there. I would check out the menus and see if maybe lunch or dinner is more appealing to you and your family. But I don't think you can go wrong either way.

In my experience when we have gone with a larger group they haven't put us at a waterside table... now we did not ask for waterside... but I have only seen larger groups set back from the waterside row.

I think it's a very personal choice and your mileage may vary depending.

I will say as AP holders we typically go to Disneyland at least 4 times a year and and have probably been about ten times in the last 2 years with the most recent being last week. We personally love Blue Bayou and have yet to have a meal that we didn't love. We had recently begun going to lunch at first seating at 11:30 as waterside for two is easily done and we beat the rush.

Last week we had a 4:20pm reservation as the earliest available when we made reservations and were actually seated before even with an extended quoted time and waterside !

I have had the Jambalaya , Strip Loin ( available at Lunch and dinner now) and Surf and Turf . All meals have been great and we've had multiple friends join us too as a favorite spot.

We are easy to please food wise but I am sure like anywhere some people just won't enjoy the preparation or something comes out not cooked right , etc. It is an expensive meal so I can understand having high expectations which is reasonable too. I just think it's one of those at least try it once and judge for yourself.

We were there for the 24 hour event and there was a huge party seated. I'm talking 25 people at least. They had three long tables. One of the tables was waterside. So I'm sure it's a possibility but you might need to wait longer than normal. Good luck!

Its my favorite but not an every time visit. When we go we go for dinner, make reservations and plan to spend some time by the water. Sometimes days are to hurried for the blue bayou. The food is fabulous. But it can be up to 50 bucks a person. If you are hurying to use a fast pass or reserve a spot for a show its not worth the the money to sit there wanting diner to go faster. However if its been a long day and you want to sit back. Its the best.

I'm thinking a late lunch? Maybe around 2:30? I'd like to plan it for the middle of the day as a mid-day escape.

went when the kiddo's where at 5 & 7, they enjoyed the blinking colored ice cube thingy in their drinks, and actually finished all of the food. the youngest had a mac & cheese (was actually really good, i tried some of it) and the other i believe had a spaghetti dish.. both of my boys where well behaved, we had a seat by the water, and they where well entertained by the POTC boats floating by.. great restaurant, and a great time for our family.

When we were there, we did an early dinner at 5:00. The large party came in about 15 min after we were seated, so around 5:15.

We were able to, but only because I agreed the 7th (2 yrs old at the time) could go into a high chair. You best bet is too show up early and ask.

my husband and i ate there recently for the first time and loved it! i had the salmon (with risotto and a salad) and my husband had the monte cristo sandwich (with gumbo). it was so yummy! i just wish we had gotten a table close to the water. maybe next time...
we went during lunchtime (a little before 2:00) in the hopes that we'd have enough leftovers for dinner and we did, so that sort of made our wallets hurt a *little* bit less since we got 2 meals out of it.

The food is very good and the atmosphere dreamy. My son LOVED it at age 10, and still remembers it 15 years later!

Service on my April visit was spotty, but my Tesoro Chicken ($33 @ dinner) was great.
