Should we feel slighted?

that just seems odd if you're close to the other family members (unless they did'nt realize you were excluded on purpose, just assumed an invite was extended to you).

This is true -- it CAN happen. Nobody invited me to my mom's 50th surprise party! I was *really* good at keeping that surprise. When my mom called me & asked why I wasn't at the party the next day, I was going "party? What party?" -- I had no clue. Apparently everyone else thought someone else invited me & in the end no one even told me about it. The funny thing is I brought her gifts over before the party so she thought I did that as to not tip her off.

Would I feel a little slighted? Probably, a little.

I think a lot depends on how close your DH & SIL are. Both my sibs live pretty close to me but I know my brother and sister spend way more time together than with me. They've always been closer with each other though so it doesn't bother me.

Now, my DH's sibs (he has 6) do this kind of thing ALL the time. (They deserve a special thread all their own). They've made an art form out of excluding other members of the family. And you never know which family member it'll be.......kind of like the lottery!

It used to bother DH when it was his turn to be left out. Now, we just laugh about it. Personally it suits me fine. His side of the family makes me want to drink when I'm with them too long. Hard liquor.......and lots of it!!!!
