Should we change our dates?

As of right now I have booked a trip for the first week of Dec. I figured I would take the kids out of school for the week. Well today I was looking at next years school calendar and we have the whole week of presidents week off. I believe it is Feb 16. We have never gone this time of year and I am not sure what it is like. We like going during the less busy times. Is presidents day busy and is that entire week busy? I would be fine if one day is busy but is the whole week is extremely busy then we don't want to go. I will have a 9,6 and 6 month old. Also what is the weather like in Feburary?

I think you'll see a big difference in crowd sizes in February versus your original plan. The first two weeks of Dec are our very favorite time of year to go because we don't like to wait in lines. It's also neat to see the Christmas decorations.

But it really comes down to what's most important to you: can your kids afford to miss the school, do you mind longer lines to not miss school, etc. I bet you'll have a great time no matter which you choose! :)

From personal experience, President's Day week is one of the busiest times at the World. Kids in the Northeast all have that entire week off, and their parents are sick of snow and cold, so we run to planes as fast as we can over the ice!

Also, if you look in the various guide books, they list President's Day week as one of the busiest times all year.

Lines are long, tempers flare, and it's not pretty...stick with December, it has to be better!

The weather will be pretty nice, pretty cool at night though. And yes, it would be great to not have to take your kids out of school for the week (we do it, but our school really frowns on it), but it will be very crowded. The UG crowd calender has that week as 8s and 9s (on a scale of 1 - 10). Those numbers are comparable to say Thanksgiving week - pretty crowded.

We are going the second week of December, and I wouldn't change it for the world! When I was younger we used to go in Feb, though, and since I was young, I don't remember it being umbareably crouded, but I was just a kid! Now-a-days I don't think I'd ever go in Feb over Dec unless I had to. Having said all that, my kids are young, (DD3 will be in preschool when we go), so I don't have to worry about them missing homework, etc, but still I don't think I'd ever want to deal with the crouds at that time! Whenever you go, have a great time!!!

PS - The only real downer to going in December is the possible chilly weather. Hopefully it wont be to bad though!

Don't go that week!

Again, early December is a great time. We went last year the week of President's Day and the place was mobbed. Because my oldest is a junior we try not to have the kids miss much school, which means going in February, so this year we went again. Luckily our district changed winter break to the week of 2/23 so went from 2/25-3/3 and noticed a big difference, hardly any crowds. :confused3 It's not February in general that's bad for crowds, it's really that week! Still, even over that I would choose December if possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also think it would be a bit warmer that week, whenever we go in February it's cold (last year at 50- degrees I don't know if we can take going then again, I think that drew the line for my DH).

Thank you all. I think I will stick with December. My oldest will be in third grade and my other school age child will be in Kindergarten and then we will have a 4 month old in Dec. I don't worry about taking the kids out of school. It is just that our district is so strict about missing school. To me they are only young once and they should enjoy it so December it is.
