Looking forward to my first trip to WDW. We are flying in from ca. Should we let disney handle our luggage or should we take care of it ourselves. We are older and it would be nice to not have to carry our luggage but not sure I want to wait 3-6 hours for luggage to arrive in our room. What do you all suggest? Thx

Congrats on your first trip! I am going in Oct for my 14th trip to WDW. I use the magical express every time. It is wonderful to not have to worry about hauling my luggage or driving anywhere. I just always take a small carryon with essentials. We usually go to the parks(depending on the time we get there) after checking in. Sometimes the room isn't ready so we have guest services hold the carryon. I've only once had a problem when only 2 out of our 3 bags were in the room when we came in from the parks. A call to the desk confirmed my bag was still on route. But it arrived within about 45 min after my call. So in my opinion I think you should trust Disney and just sit back and relax and enjoy! Hope this helps. Have a magical first trip!

I think it depends on what time your flight gets in and what your plans are for the rest of your first day. We came in on a late flight once and they brought us our luggage at about midnight-- long after we had gone to sleep-- despite the fact that they assured us they would just hold on to it until the morning. If I come in on a late flight again I will just carry my own luggage. But as previous poster mentioned, if we come in earlier in the day we just have swim suits and things for the day in our carry on and let Disney take care of it.

Just a tip, whether Disney is handling your luggage or not, we always pack our swim suits, a set of jammies and one extra outfit in our carry on (plus any other essentials) for any trip in case our luggage is delayed for any reason.

We've used ME twice. Both times our flight got in late afternoon; between 4:00 and 5:00. We had no problems. As long as you're not looking at a late evening flight I'd say go for it!

We had Disney do it, but don't expect a quick drop off. I think we arrived on property around 7PM (no luggage which scared me for half a minute), went to Downtown Disney, came back around 11PM and our luggage was there.

Have fun!

Welcome to Disboards. We always let them take the luggage and have had no problems with the system.

Regards Larry.

We always use DME,and love it!!!

That said, make good use of your carryon. Make sure it includes anything you're likely to need in those first few hours-- a swim suit, any medication, your Magic Bands, and so on.

We've never had to wait more than about 2 hours for our bags.
