should we cancel?

Wednesday, I somehow managed to really hurt my left calf muscle (s).

I have been relegated to using a cane for most of the year, so I can not figure out what happened. I have FMS and late tonight my aunt, also inflicted, said her thigh also feels the same sometimes.

My Dr has me scheduled for an appointment tomorrow, but sent me to the ER tonight to check for blood clots.

I am having a hard time not being in pain, walking, straightening, and bending the leg - say for a flight or ride really really hurts. I got morphine and feeling a we better. But that could be the meds.

The big problem is we leave Saturday. We have first time early morning breakfasts and want to see off kilter before they go.

Anyone with this type of issue that can give me hope for being slowly better as the trip wares on?

I'd hate to miss it and sure don't want to destroy my leg in the process.

Well, first, what did the ER say? If you do have blood clots, you're at risk of DVT. But since you can't cancel in the middle of the night, and any penalty will be the same in daylight as it would be right now, see what the doctor says about you flying.

I agree - see what the doctor says about clots and if you get the all clear, I would go on your trip and take it as easy as you can till the "Magic" takes over and you feel better. I guarantee once you start to relax you'll have a great time even if you can't see everything you wanted too.

If you have trouble walking the long distances required to cover the parks, why not hire an electric scooter?

Hope you get to go on your trip.

Have a great time.

Thanks for the replies. I was on morphine and not sure I actually posted.

Id hate to miss the trip. Still in pain, no blood clots though they want to check again in a week. The ER doc said I was fine to fly.

I am worried about being cramped in the plane and getting on and off rides.

It still hurts today, but on the positive I am cursing as much.weather that is do to the healing our the pain resignation I am unsure.

Thanks again for the replies. We already have a wheelchair reserved, can't do an ecv with hand tremors, but Mom, who is going with can't really push me either.

Yay! Birthday trip fun.

Ill see what the doctor says, before any big decisions. It would be very sad to miss, but I'd rather walk again than go.

Please wish me luck.

Hi...

Ok, first time here, so don't beat me up. =)

I have kinda been lurking, as in single digits now until my trip to DL. Your post caught my eye, because, in my mind, Hell no! Never cancel a trip to Disney! lol

After reading your post, I feel for you. I also have FMS, but I have been to DL many times (mostly many years ago when I still lived in Cali and my fibro wasn't as bad as it is now). Now, I can see where the threat of blood clots is terrifying, but I'm glad to hear they don't seem to think that's the case.

I won't lie, sitting in a plane for long times (or a car. I've got a 5 hour trip on Thurs and another 3 hour one to get to disney on Saturday) is a pain in the.....everywhere. How much time do you have between settling after the flight and your day at disney?

Is it too late to get a ECV? I wouldn't be able to manage my upcoming trip without it. I'm terrified of people seeing a 29 year old riding one and assuming I'm faking, but screw them. I won't ruin a fun time with my mom and best friend over looks.

I know, big things like this with FMS are frightening, and even worse when you've got one problem area you don't know what's wrong with (I've got that too, just not the calf). But, with a little modification and moderation, you can still enjoy the trip. I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds. Don't want to make this about me, but I can share a few things I'm planning to do for my trip.

Our trip, we get into town on Sat, do a little shopping, and get our hotel. We've got 4 days at DL, then DTD on Thurs before we go home. Our hotel is right across the street, so it's not a far walk. My plan is this. Lots and lots of rest! Obviously, I'll be at the parks a lot, in my ECV that will be delivered to our hotel. I plan to, each day, probably, go back to the hotel, and relax in the pool or hot tub, or take a nap for a little bit and then we'll go back. Each night, my plan is to take an epsom salt bath to help with the pain. I'll be carrying my meds, my lidocaine cream, my braces (wrist, ankle, and elbow), thermacare patches, icy hot patches.....well, you get the drift. In short, I'm prepared to do as much as I can to enjoy my time at the park.

I'm going to hurt like hell, I know. But with a little prep work, I think I can handle it. I hope the same for you. One last bit of advice, if you haven't tried already, see if any OTC topical creams or patches help your calf pain. I have found sometimes, I just get these deep aches and a normally fine place becomes a problem area. Heat, and medicated creams often help me. I have a prescription cream, but before I had that, I used icy hot patches, usually (not with the heat, naturally).

Sorry this got long. I hope it helps a little. I hope it's nothing more than fibro being mean and not something serious.

I don't know if you'll see this as I think you left yesterday...
But, a couple of years ago I managed to tear my calf muscle. I was miserable. After ruling out blood clots, I followed up with my doctor. Since I am unable to use crutches and can't self-propel a wheelchair, she had me wrap my leg with an ace bandage. Start at the ankle and go up the leg to just below the knee. It takes a long bandage. It looked hilarious, but it brought some pain relief for those times I HAD to walk.
Hope you have fun despite the pain.

When I read things like this, I wonder if the writer realizes how judgemental he or she is being? Believe me, 99.9% of the people who see you at WDW don't care anything about you and whether or not you're using an ECV. Stop worrying about what other people [aren't] thinking and have fun.
